Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Ombudsman, Florbela Ara\u00fajo, guaranteed, yesterday, in Luanda, the protection of the rights of Cape Verdean citizens residing in Angola, during a meeting with Ambassador Jorge Figueiredo, following a cooperation agreement signed between Angola and Cape Verde, on August 7, 2021.
\n<\/b>
\nThe agreement signed by the Angolan Ombudsman, Florbela Ara\u00fajo, and by the Cape Verdean Ombudsman, Jos\u00e9 Carlos Delegado, establishes as main objectives the sharing of experiences and good practices, resulting from intervention procedures and strategies in favor of citizens’ rights.<\/p>\n

Florbela Ara\u00fajo made it known, by the way, that, within the powers of persuasion, attributed to the Ombudsman’s Office, she will work with the various State institutions to resolve any problems that concern the Cape Verdean community in the country. She said, in this sense, that the meeting made it possible to identify farmers in the Cape Verdean community of retirement age, but who are not entitled to the subsidy, and it is useful to create mechanisms to guarantee the pension to these citizens. Another factor identified, she said, is the difficulty of acquiring Angolan nationality.<\/p>\n

He added that the purpose of the meeting was to defend the rights of Angolans and Cape Verdeans. Florbela Ara\u00fajo stressed that there is no information that there are Cape Verdeans in conflict with the law, a condition that facilitates joint work to solve the problems of citizens residing in the country.<\/p>\n

The provider Florbela Ara\u00fajo pointed out that Angola can take advantage of Cape Verde’s experience in the field of education, in various segments such as sex education, which is quite valuable in controlling the birth rate.<\/p>\n

“Cape Verde has a faster education system. When citizens are better educated, they control their birth rate better,” said the provider, having announced that a work commission was created to assist citizens in both countries.<\/p>\n

Ambassador Jorge Figueiredo explained that the Cape Verdean community is very well integrated in Angola. “There are Cape Verdeans who have completed higher education, and who are very well integrated into society, with an emphasis on economic activity”, he said.<\/p>\n

Jorge Figueiredo informed that of the total number of Cape Verdeans residing in Angola, 25,000 are registered, while more than 100,000 are awaiting the granting of resident status. After considering the friendly relations as very fruitful, the diplomat defended the improvement of cooperation in the field of transport, air and maritime, to intensify the connection between the two countries.<\/p>\n
