Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Angolan authorities have made significant progress in the fight against corruption with more than US$20 billion of illicitly acquired assets seized internally and externally, according to the Minister of State for economic coordination Manuel Nunes J\u00fanior.<\/b><\/p>\n

More than 3,000 cases of corruption, money laundering and other commercial crimes have been opened since the administration of President Jo\u00e3o Louren\u00e7o took office in 2017, against just 12 cases instituted by the previous administration, said the Minister of Economic Coordination.<\/p>\n

The Minister of State added that “instead of mere words, our leader President Jo\u00e3o Louren\u00e7o has led with determination and objectivity a real fight against corruption and impunity”.<\/p>\n

He also highlighted quoted by Bloomberg that “a lot was said about corruption in Angola in the past, but little or nothing had been done”.<\/p>\n

Public debt<\/b><\/p>\n

Manuel Nunes J\u00fanior sees the MPLA winning the elections, and highlighted one of the great achievements of his leader, which was the reduction of the public debt.<\/p>\n

“The weight of public debt fell to 66% of gross domestic product by the first half of 2022, against more than 120% in 2020.<\/p>\n

And he made it known that “the next administration will work to reduce the unemployment rate to below 25% within five years, with the economy well positioned to continue the growth trajectory as a result of the reforms that the government has implemented in the last five years that have been worthy of recognition by the IMF, World Bank and other international institutions.<\/p>\n

Angola “returned to growth in 2021 after 5 years of consecutive recession, in a process led by the non-oil sector”, said Manuel Nunes J\u00fanior. “This must be the way forward to reduce unemployment and fight hunger and poverty in Angola”.<\/p>\n

In this regard, the unemployment rate has been decreasing since the third quarter of 2021 according to data published by the National Statistics Institute (INE).<\/p>\n
