Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Minister of Foreign Affairs, T\u00e9te Ant\u00f3nio, participated, Wednesday, in Luanda, in the 1103rd Virtual Meeting of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union (AU), which updated the political situation in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), given the new occurrences.<\/b><\/p>\n

The meeting, according to the Mirex press release, took place from Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) and was chaired by the Permanent Representative of the Republic of The Gambia to the African Union and Chairperson of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union for the month of August, Ambassador Jainaba Jagne.<\/p>\n

The Council reviewed the mediation process of the Angola-led International Conference on the Great Lakes Region, the East African and Economic Communities of Central African States and the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region.<\/p>\n

The event analyzed possible paths and ways that enable the African Union to support the ongoing political process, including the demobilization of the East African Community regional force, to better address the situation in eastern DRC.<\/p>\n

A strategy that prioritizes the harmonization and complement of all peace efforts among stakeholders, with a focus on streamlining the ongoing political and military framework, within the framework of the African Early Warning Force concept and the African Union policy framework on disarmament, demobilization, reintegration and security sector reform, was also assessed at the meeting.<\/p>\n

T\u00e9te Ant\u00f3nio spoke as president of the International Conference of the Great Lakes Region (CIRGL), on the basis of the decision adopted at the 16th extraordinary session of the Union Assembly on Terrorism and Unconstitutional Changes of Government, held in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, in May last.<\/p>\n

During the virtual meeting of the continental organization, the African Union Commissioner for Political Relations, Peace and Security, Bankole Adeoye, in addition to representatives of the Governments of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Kenya, Burundi, and the Economic Communities of the States of Central Africa (ECCAS) and Southern African Development (SADC).<\/p>\n
