Before that, on November 11, 1975, he proclaimed independence and subsequently became the first President of the People’s Republic of Angola.

As a writer, the nationalist wrote several works, especially “Quatro Poemas de Agostinho Neto (1957)”, “Sagrada Esperança (1974)”, and “A Renuncia Impossível”, the latter published posthumously in 1982. “Angolans holding hands for the future”, the act was witnessed by members of the provincial government, members of the National Assembly, representatives of political parties, religious leaders, traditional authorities, former combatants, academics, among others.

Neto’s academic legacy

Neto’s academic legacy and the use of the Academy and Art, in terms of artistic creation and the ideals that allowed the liberation of Angola and Africa, was discussed yesterday during a lecture given by historian Isidro Dahepele to members of the Government of Cunene.

Historian Isidro Dahepele considered Agostinho Neto a reference for national culture, whose teachings should serve as a source of inspiration and mandatory biographical consultation for anyone who wants to understand Angolan literature. He stated that Neto separated himself from the Academy, from Art, from Politics and from Medicine, to explore other fields, having constituted himself a figure that serves as a paradigm for future generations.

“The figure of Neto must be taken into account, as a man of letters, who leaves a vast legacy of works that should be explored in universities and general education institutions, from the point of view of poetry and scientific literature”, underlined the historian.

For More News And Analysis About Angola Follow Africa-Press

Africa-Press – Angola.
