The five new manufacturing projects underway at the Ca\u00e1la Industrial Complex join seven already implemented and have the potential to revitalize economic activity in that concentration of industrial units, where the available space is occupied by only 11 percent, according to the newspaper. from Angola the director of the Huambo Provincial Integrated Economic Development Office, Manuel Vitongui.<\/p>\n

Among the companies being implemented, there are units dedicated to the processing of food, including cereals, which minimizes the issue of the area occupied by the pole, which, with a total of 1,087 hectares in extension, has industrial units installed in only 134.5 hectares, including factories of foam mattresses, blocks, cement artefacts for sealing, window frames and plastic water reservoirs.<\/p>\n

According to Manuel Vitongui, the plywood factory, located three kilometers from the village of Cachiungo, in the east of the province, is highly sought after by civil construction contractors and by holders of arts and crafts workshops, with emphasis on carpentry.<\/p>\n

The director of the Provincial Office for Integrated Economic Development expressed expectations that the national market will soon stop importing plywood for civil construction, following the ongoing investments in the wood-based production plant.<\/p>\n

According to the official, the province of Huambo has already consolidated itself in this area, since the plywood used for various purposes is produced in the region, with the biggest challenge being the placement of the product in the other provinces of the country.<\/p>\n

He recalled that the province of Huambo already constituted, from the 60s to the 90s, the second industrial park in the country. At that time, the factories in S\u00e3o Jo\u00e3o, Chiva, S\u00e3o Pedro and the lower part of the city absorbed most of the labor force in the province.<\/p>\n

The director of the Provincial Office for Integrated Economic Development considered that the state of destruction in which the old factories are located makes recovery more difficult and costly than opting for new and modern facilities.<\/p>\n

Manuel Vitongue recalled the Nova-Pl\u00e1s, Nova York and Co-Huambo clothing factories, soft drink production units, foundries for the production of hoes, machetes and plows to support peasants, tara for the selection of seeds in the fields, machines for industry support equipment and others that absorbed most of the workforce at that time.<\/p>\n

Rural Industries<\/b><\/p>\n

Currently, Manuel Vitongue stressed, there is a Program for the Promotion of Small Rural Industry (PROFIR) that is part of the National Development Plan (PDN) which provides for the creation of rural industries in the province, through the infrastructure of industrial parks in the various municipalities. .<\/p>\n

The official indicated that, at the moment, there are works at a standstill in two industrial parks in the municipality of Cachiungo and another in the municipality of Calenga, Ca\u00e1la, where the production of animal feed, bakery, milling, cold and mechanical workshops is planned.<\/p>\n

The LSGC factory, for school desks, doors and office supplies, restricted daily production capacity to 200 desks due to the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic, which affected investors’ finances.<\/p>\n

Located in the Industrial Development Pole of Ca\u00e1la, about 23 kilometers from the city of Huambo, the factory, installed to produce 500 bags a day, stopped operating at peak capacity in 2020, confirmed the factory supervisor, Jacob Frederico. He highlighted that since the pandemic emerged, requests have reduced. As an example, throughout 2020, 400 school desks were produced.<\/p>\n

In addition to double and individual school desks, the unit produces a daily average of 40 hospital beds, bunk beds, five armchairs, 15 tables, doors and office supplies with local and Chinese material.<\/p>\n

The strategy consists of producing desks, meeting tables and desks according to market needs and increasing quantities whenever the increase is justified, as there is a workforce and machines with the potential to respond to market demands.<\/p>\n

New markets boost factory production in the province<\/b><\/p>\n

The provinces of Huambo, Hu\u00edla and Luanda are the main markets for the factory of desks and office furniture, as well as for other wood derivatives, with these products regularly absorbing more than half of the production.<\/p>\n

Jacob Frederico mentioned that sales are made directly or by order, both for companies and for individual customers who travel to the factory.<\/p>\n

The supervisor stated that, in addition to the salary, the Angolans found, at the factory, the opportunity to learn how to handle the machines that intervene in the production process and to grow from a professional point of view.<\/p>\n

“They are, essentially, young people of both sexes who, when they came here to work, knew nothing, they only helped the Chinese. Over time, as a result of learning, they stood out and, some, occupy leadership positions”, highlighted the person in charge.<\/p>\n

Proof of this is the case of young Domingos Calulu Lucas, 27, Pedro Luwaya, 24, Eduardo Sassoma, 22, Pedro Mateus, Albino Aspirante, Jeremias dos Santos and Joaquim Chipenha, 23, who work as machine operators long after have been hired as auxiliary employees.<\/p>\n

“We have good working conditions. With the salary we receive, we buy clothes for the children, notebooks and pencils to study, as well as seeds and fertilizers for our fields”, said one of the youths.<\/p>\n

Inaugurated in 2016 by the former governor of Huambo, Jo\u00e3o Baptista Kussumua, the factory generated direct employment for 63 local young people, three of whom were women, and for two Chinese, with the total number of workers rising to 65, up from 54 employees at its peak. of the pandemic in 2020.<\/p>\n

With a private investment valued at more than 600 million kwanzas, the factory is owned by Angolans and Chinese, producing close to 10,000 portfolios per month, according to supervisor and machine operator Jacob Frederico.<\/p>\n
