Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angola Telecom’s management considers the strike by the company’s employees to be illegal, declared by the Union of Postal, Telecommunications and Related Workers of Luanda (STCTAL) and in progress since 21 June.<\/b><\/p>\n

In a statement sent, Thursday (8), the Board of Directors of Angola Telecom says that it was “with great surprise” that it became aware of information circulated by the secretary general of STCTAL, Louren\u00e7o Afonso, to justify the stoppage of work at the company. Such information, he says, is serious and distorts the reality of the facts and can create confusion within public opinion.<\/p>\n

“The alleged strike declared by the STCTAL is, in the opinion of the Board of Directors, illegal and (this) has already been made public on the part of the Ministry of Public Administration, Labor and Social Security (MAPTSS), the same opinion, for not having fulfilled the assumptions of the Strike Law for its declaration\u201d, reads the statement.<\/p>\n

The management of Angola Telecom, while recognizing “fairness in most of the claims presented”, highlights the fact that the workers are aware of the difficult context that the country is going through, accentuated with the Covid-19 pandemic, a reality to which Angola Telecom does not He states that, in recent years, the company’s management, together with the workers, has committed to changing the company’s image and providing better conditions for its employees, which have been carried out having, for example, in the current year, a salary increase was carried out at the maximum ceiling of 50 percent for workers with the lowest salaries.<\/p>\n

In the document, the Board of Directors of Angola Telecom is pleased that, last year – and as has not happened for a long time – the company achieved a positive net result, as shown in the report and accounts for the 2021 financial year.<\/p>\n

Even so, he states that “the gains are insufficient to balance the structuring problems that the company is experiencing”, resulting from divestments and lack of technological modernization to accompany the dynamics of a more competitive and demanding market. .<\/p>\n

The Board of Directors of Angola Telecom reaffirms its determination to guarantee the well-being of its main asset, the employees, providing increasingly better conditions, with an adequate remuneration framework in view of the moment the company is going through, while ensuring for the interests of the State, which, in essence, belong to all Angolans.<\/p>\n

It also reaffirms its total openness to continue productive dialogue and find the best ways to resolve workers’ concerns and “unite the Angola Telecom Family”.<\/p>\n
