Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The province of Huambo has more than 3,000 tonnes of corn, soy and bean seeds available, which are already being distributed in all municipalities.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to the director of the Provincial Office of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Toni Kamuti, the objective is to make them reach the peasants as quickly as possible, in order to guarantee success in the next agricultural season.<\/p>\n

“For this year, a price reduction policy was established, through the Government’s Agrarian Development Support Fund (FADA) program, which subsidizes the acquisition of inputs by 35 percent,” he said.<\/p>\n

Toni Kamuti, exemplified that if a bag of fertilizer 12\/24\/12 costs 29,000 kwanzas in the market, deducting the subsidy, it will be sold for around 16,000 kwanzas, just for peasants affiliated with associations and cooperatives.<\/p>\n

He also referred that the fertilizers will be sold on a credit basis, so when collecting the farmer immediately pays a first installment of 5,000 kwanzas and the remainder is for the second reimbursement, paid after the harvest.<\/p>\n

Toni Kamuti appeals, therefore, to the peasants to prepare themselves and participate widely in the next campaign, so that they have an uneventful agricultural year, and when the first rains appear, put the seeds in the ground, to guarantee the production of food in large quantities. scale.<\/p>\n

Producer control <\/b><\/p>\n

The province of Huambo, said the agronomist, controls more than 260,000 peasant families, who are mobilized for agricultural activity, whose official opening should take place on 15 September.<\/p>\n

It is already known that only peasants organized in associations and cooperatives will be entitled to the fertilizer subsidized by the State, as a matter of organizing the activity, as the amount available is insufficient, considering the number of practitioners of agriculture.<\/p>\n

In the round carried out by Jornal de Angola in different commercial establishments selling agricultural materials, in the city of Huambo, it was found that the price of fertilizers varied on a scale between 27 and 28 thousand kwanzas for a 50-kilogram bag of fertilizer 12\/24 \/12.<\/p>\n

The price of ammonium sulfate is between 16 and 17 thousand, while the price of a bag of urea costs between 32 and 34 thousand kwanzas. Prices change with a difference of two thousand kwanzas in the informal market.<\/p>\n

Ready peasants <\/b><\/p>\n

Peasants and farmers in the province of Huambo assure that they are ready to embark on a new farming endeavor, given the approach of the 2022-2023 agricultural season, with the promise of producing more food, hoping that the rains will fall in the right measure, to guarantee the sustenance of the great centers of consumption, as well as of the respective families.<\/p>\n

As they have witnessed, they remain available to continue to grow products of sufficient quality and quantity, with which they aim to guarantee the province’s food self-sufficiency, even under many difficulties, including the high prices of fertilizers, a fact that has inhibited the action of country men.<\/p>\n

Peasant Justina Odeth showed great concern about the current prices of fertilizers in the local market and regretted the difficulties that many face in buying a bag of fertilizers, which costs 28,000 kwanzas, 32,000 for urea and 16,000 for ammonium.<\/p>\n

He considers that with these prices, it is not advisable for a field worker to cultivate large fields, since the soil is poor and without fertilizers, he will not be able to harvest much.<\/p>\n

“We have the strength and the will to work, but when this is done without fertilizers, it becomes a failure in our activity to be able to buy a bag of fertilizer is very difficult, because the products that we harvest in the countryside, when arriving in the city, are sold at low prices, and it harms us when buying fertilizers\u201d.<\/p>\n

Justina Odeth asks similar institutions for help to lower the prices of fertilizers, a way of dignifying the activity of rural workers, because the livelihood of cities is guaranteed from the countryside, if the countryside does not produce, the city goes hungry.<\/p>\n

Looking for fertilizers<\/b><\/p>\n

Another peasant who is crying out for support with fertilizers, as the growing season approaches, is Fernando M\u00e1rio, who has recently dedicated himself to clearing new areas to cultivate during the agricultural season, since the old cultivation lands have already lost their fertility, and for that, the old farms will spend three years without agricultural activity, serving as a space for the village’s cattle pasture, to recover their productivity in a natural way.<\/p>\n

Fernando M\u00e1rio said he had deforested about three hectares to dedicate himself to family farming, where he will give priority to the cultivation of corn and beans, products most used to improve his family’s diet and the surplus can be used to sell and buy work material.<\/p>\n

At this time, he is cultivating reindeer potatoes to be harvested in December, as it is an immediate product, with a lot of demand as the festive season approaches, since field activity also requires making calculations and predicting when a certain product is in greater demand from consumers and to make the activity profitable.<\/p>\n

To this end, Fernando M\u00e1rio asks the State to subsidize the prices of fertilizers for all rural people, and not only for those who are organized in cooperatives, since the results of this action will help to reduce hunger within the communities, waiting for the rains to fall in the right measures.<\/p>\n

UNACA controls 853 peasant associations<\/b><\/p>\n

The vice president of the board of the National Union of Peasant Associations and Agricultural Cooperatives of Angola, Ab\u00edlio Kayangayanga Ukwasapi, said that the association has the mission of mobilizing peasants to join cooperatives and serve as a means of connecting peasants and state institutions.<\/p>\n

In Huambo, 853 peasant associations are controlled, which makes up more than 70,000 members, 35,000 of whom are women. 225 farmers’ cooperatives are also monitored, with a total of 14,000 members, of which 6,000 are women investors.<\/p>\n

Informal data ensure that peasants who make family production are still the majority.<\/p>\n

Ab\u00edlio Kayangayanga Ukwasapi considers that family farming is a nucleus that gives rise to the total sustainability of Huambo, if this group stops producing, a food crisis may arise in the communities, since large farmers produce and supply a group of clients or for the manufacturing industry.<\/p>\n

Therefore, talking about the peasant is to highlight human life, because he is the producer of a good part of the food that is consumed, therefore, he cannot stop his activities, at all times of the year, there is work in the field and therefore, the farmer must read and calculate the time when he should grow a particular product.<\/p>\n

After the harvest, the farmer must automatically prepare another agricultural campaign, obeying efforts to select the seeds to cultivate the nacas, then organize the low areas, and then clear the land for the crops from above, all through a well-designed plan. .<\/p>\n

For the official, the price of fertilizer in the peasant’s life is like a diamond, it is the most expensive product in the peasant’s life, which means that he is penalized, but Ab\u00edlio Ukwasapi understands the situation, because the country not have a fertilizer factory. Currently, the price of fertilizer is between 29 and 30 thousand on the local market, if the government subsidizes the price, it will benefit some and others will be left with little alternative and have to buy at the price sold locally. It recognizes the efforts of the peasants of Huambo, as they are always motivated and hopes for an above-average harvest, if the rain reaches acceptable levels, it is a guarantee that the population will not lack food and, automatically, informal market.<\/p>\n
