Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>African Union Member States in the Southern Region were oriented to establish, within two years, PHEOCs with legal mandates, duly equipped with adequate infrastructure, dedicated and well-trained human resources, aiming at strengthening Health Operations Centers. public.<\/b><\/p>\n

The orientation was advanced at a high-level meeting held this Saturday in the city of Livingstone, Republic of Zambia, dedicated to evaluating the application of the operationalization of the so-called Lusaka Action. The Angolan ambassador to that country, Azevedo Francisco Xavier, participated in the event, representing the Minister of Health, S\u00edlvia Lutucuta.<\/p>\n

Participants addressed the recurring epidemics that are raging on the continent, including Covid-19, the socio-economic impact, the high burden resulting from the situations imposed by them and other emergency events in the region, as well as the imminent risks of emerging and re-emerging diseases, according to a press release from the Angolan Embassy in Zambia.<\/p>\n

During the work, challenges in coordinating and managing resources, information and data to prepare for and respond to multiple outbreaks and other emergency events in Africa were also assessed. Recognizing existing relevant frameworks, protocols, strategies and agreements, participants welcomed the so-called Lusaka Action to strengthen Public Health Emergency Operations Centers.<\/p>\n

In that order, they committed to implement a close collaboration and maintain the efforts being made by the African CDC, WHO and other partners in order to strengthen and establish the PHEOCs, the press release states.<\/p>\n

Aware that African Union Member States are at different stages of establishing national and functional PHEOCs to comply with the International Health Regulations (IHR), they undertake to, in addition to the above, provide national PHEOCs with sustainable functioning for operations effective response to Public Health emergencies.<\/p>\n

Member States guarantee support for the creation of a PHEOC Regional Technical Working Group (TWG) to establish priorities and monitor the progress of PHEOC implementation in the region and thus include the strategy as a permanent item on the agenda at Committee meetings. Regional Directive.<\/p>\n

They add that they will appeal to the Africa CDC to establish and facilitate a “regional PHEOC TWG” in order to set regional priorities and track their progress in the region. Coordinated actions will be developed in close collaboration with partners and provide the necessary support to programs to accelerate the implementation of the PHEOC country roadmaps.<\/p>\n
