Bertozzi, Morten Meldal and K. Barry Sharpless. The latter becomes the fifth person to receive a Nobel twice.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Carlyn R. Bertozzi of Stanford University, Morten Meldal of the University of Copenhagen, and K. Barry Sharpless of Scripps Research are the winners of the 2022 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for &#8220;the development of click chemistry and bioorthogonal chemistry&#8221; &#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>It should be noted that K. Barry Sharpless thus becomes the fifth person to receive two Nobel Prizes. Sharpless received the Chemistry Prize in 2001 and 2022, following in the footsteps of John Bardeen, Marie Sk\u0142odowska Curie, Linus Pauling and Frederick Sanger.<\/p>\n<p>Johan Aqvist, chairman of the Nobel Chemistry Committee, said this year&#8217;s prize is &#8220;about not overcomplicating things, but working with what is easy and simple.&#8221; &#8220;Functional molecules can be built even following a direct route&#8221;, he said quoted by Not\u00edcias to Minuto.<\/p>\n<p>Click chemistry is a class of biocompatible small molecule reactions commonly used in bioconjugation, allowing the coupling of substrates of choice with specific biomolecules. Bioorthogonal, a term coined by Bertozzi herself, is a chemical reaction that can occur within living systems without interfering with native biochemical processes.
