Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The creation of a new global agreement to combat wildlife crime was the subject of an international debate on the illicit trafficking of animals, held on Tuesday in London at the United Summit for Wildlife (UfW), organized by the Royal Foundation.<\/b><\/p>\n

The meeting, in which the country was represented, served to present a proposal, in global agreement, by Angola against wildlife crime, based on the recommendations of the President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, in his speech in September 2021.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, Angola’s efforts were highlighted by the Global Initiative to End Wildlife Crime (EWC).<\/p>\n

The Prince of Wales attended the meeting, which brought together 300 leading figures from the private sector, conservation organizations and law enforcement in a pledge to end illicit wildlife trafficking.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, EWC President John Scanlon AO praised the statements of the Presidents of Angola, Costa Rica, Gabon and Malawi, calling for a new global agreement on wildlife crimes, in the form of an Additional Protocol to the Convention of the United Nations against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC).<\/p>\n

The Resolution, presented by Angola, Kenya and Peru, said, invites Member States to “provide the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime with their views on possible responses, including the potential for an additional Protocol to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, as a way of addressing any gaps that may exist in the current international legal framework in relation to combating illicit wildlife trafficking\u201d.<\/p>\n
