Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Secretary-General of the United Nations today urged the leaders of all countries in the world to a “continued political commitment” to a better functioning of health systems in the face of possible crises such as the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/b><\/p>\n

“The richest countries and international financial institutions must support developing countries so that they can make these crucial investments”, pointed out Anto\u0301nio Guterres in his speech by videoconference before the World Health Summit taking place in Berlin.<\/p>\n

Guterres highlighted the poor preparation of the vast majority of countries in the world to address a health crisis.<\/p>\n

“Women are the most affected. They bear a greater burden of care in the family and as front-line workers”, in addition to facing “inadequate” health care networks, he argued.<\/p>\n

Covid-19, and currently the food, energy and financial crisis caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine threaten the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and efforts to reduce poverty.<\/p>\n

“We have to rebalance multilateralism and strengthen global cooperation,” Guterres said.<\/p>\n

The UN secretary-general considered that “the unbalanced global financial system is failing in the developing world”.<\/p>\n

“This must change. Everyone needs inclusive, impartial and equitable access to health services, to universal health coverage”, including mental health services, he emphasized. “Good health is the foundation for a peaceful and stable society,” she added.<\/p>\n
