Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Te\u0301te Anto\u0301nio, received in audience, Thursday (20), the Zambian ambassador to Angola, Lawrence Chalungumana, with whom he analysed, among other issues, the deepening of bilateral relations between the two countries.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to a note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the meeting, issues related to cooperation in the most varied fields were reviewed, with a focus on the State visit to Angola by Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia.<\/p>\n

The two countries are linked by a border that extends over a thousand kilometers and their governments are interested in increasing the pace of trade, which currently suffers from excessive informalization and is basically carried out by small operators and resident populations along the boundary zone.<\/p>\n

The opening of circulation routes, such as the project for the construction of the river channel that connects the localities of Changombo (Zambia) and Rivungo (Cuando Cubango), together with the Benguela Railway, within the scope of the Lobito Corridor, they are the structural pillars of an economic exchange between the two countries.<\/p>\n

In 2017, Angola and Zambia signed an agreement for the construction of a railway line, with a length of 580 kilometers, connecting the two countries with the DRC, starting from Chingola, a northern city in the Cobre region, to facilitate the transport of people and goods across the common border.<\/p>\n

Once the project is implemented, mining companies in the Northern region of Zambia as well as service providers will have quick and easy access to port infrastructure in order to export their products.<\/p>\n

Zambia buys fish, salt, cement, fuel and lubricants from Angola and sells agricultural products such as maize to the neighboring country, in a transaction volume of around US$10 million a year.<\/p>\n
