Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, received, Thursday, in Luanda, the special envoy of the counterpart of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in terms of security, Jean Claude Bukasa, as part of the regular consultations between the two countries, to the pacification of the Great Lakes Region.<\/b><\/p>\n

At the end of the meeting, which took place at the Presidential Palace, Jean Claude Bukasa did not make any statements to journalists, but it is assumed that he had discussed with President Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o questions related to the latest political and military developments in the Great Lakes Region (CIRGL) , more specifically the conflict between the DRC and neighboring Rwanda.<\/p>\n

Peace and stability in the region, namely in the DRC, is one of the priorities of Angolan diplomacy, mainly because the two countries share an extensive border (the 13th largest in the world).<\/p>\n

In May of this year, the president of the UN General Assembly, Abdulla Shahid, recognized Angola’s commitment to actions to promote international peace and security as an essential contribution to fulfilling the multilateralism agenda and the principles of the United Nations Charter.<\/p>\n

Abdulla Shahid made the statement to the press at the end of the audience granted to him by President Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, at the Presidential Palace, during which he expressed satisfaction with the Government’s political initiatives, as they proved to be effective in preventing and removing threats to the peace.<\/p>\n

“Angola is a very important country for the United Nations, because it is committed to multilateralism. It is also one of those countries that support and fight for the application and respect of the principles of the UN Charter”, declared the high official of the United Nations, who also mentioned, in the context of global challenges, the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n
