{"id":18352,"date":"2022-10-23T17:28:53","date_gmt":"2022-10-23T17:28:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/angola\/all-news\/birmingham-street-photographers-exhibition-extended"},"modified":"2022-10-23T18:51:10","modified_gmt":"2022-10-23T18:51:10","slug":"birmingham-street-photographers-exhibition-extended","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/angola\/all-news\/birmingham-street-photographers-exhibition-extended","title":{"rendered":"Birmingham street photographer&#8217;s exhibition extended"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Angola. <\/strong><\/span><b>A popular photography exhibition, showcasing 20 years of street photography, has been extended.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Herbert Walters&#8217; work, Portraits of Black Britain, is being shown at the Medicine Bakery Gallery, New Street, in Birmingham.<\/p>\n<p>The work shows different periods captured at various events in Birmingham and London by the 60-year-old.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My work will live on for years and years to come,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"976\" height=\"976\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-18348 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/static.africa-press.net\/angola\/sites\/65\/2022\/10\/postMediaimg_65_1.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.africa-press.net\/angola\/sites\/65\/2022\/10\/postMediaimg_65_1.jpg 976w, https:\/\/static.africa-press.net\/angola\/sites\/65\/2022\/10\/postMediaimg_65_1-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.africa-press.net\/angola\/sites\/65\/2022\/10\/postMediaimg_65_1-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/static.africa-press.net\/angola\/sites\/65\/2022\/10\/postMediaimg_65_1-768x768.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 976px) 100vw, 976px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>He said he first discovered a love of photography at just eight years old.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We always had a camera in the house so I would use it to document my family, my life and those around me,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When I was a kid in school, I was told that I wasn&#8217;t intelligent enough to go to university and complete a degree, and that I should go and work in a factory, so I ended up becoming a bricklayer.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"976\" height=\"549\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-18349 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/static.africa-press.net\/angola\/sites\/65\/2022\/10\/postMediaimg_65_2.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.africa-press.net\/angola\/sites\/65\/2022\/10\/postMediaimg_65_2.jpg 976w, https:\/\/static.africa-press.net\/angola\/sites\/65\/2022\/10\/postMediaimg_65_2-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.africa-press.net\/angola\/sites\/65\/2022\/10\/postMediaimg_65_2-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 976px) 100vw, 976px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Growing up in &#8220;industrial&#8221; Birmingham, he said there were not a lot of opportunities, but he eventually attended Birmingham City University aged 48.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I feel like I went to university at a good age. If I had studied when I was much younger, I wouldn&#8217;t have been as interested.
