Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), meeting in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, yesterday congratulated the Chadian people for their national and inclusive dialogue, in order to bring the parties together.<\/b><\/p>\n

The statesmen, at the 2nd extraordinary session of the ECCAS Heads of State and Government Conference, also condemned the events of the 20th of this month, which caused a high number of human victims and material damage, in N’Djamena and other cities in the Republic of Chad.<\/p>\n

In the same session, in which the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Te\u0301te Anto\u0301nio, represented the Head of State, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, the participants named the President of the DRC, Fe\u0301lix Thisekedi, “facilitator” in the transition process of Chad.<\/p>\n

According to a note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to which Jornal de Angola had access, at the meeting, guided by the Congolese Head of State, Fe\u0301lix Tshisekedi, also acting president of this regional organization, the Report of the President of the Community Commission was evaluated. of the Central African States, the Angolan ambassador Gilberto Veri\u0301ssimo, on the conclusion of the first phase of the political transition in Chad.<\/p>\n

The Heads of State of the Republic of Congo, Denis Sassou Nguesso, of CAR, Faustin Archange Touadera, and of Chad, Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, as well as the head of Angolan diplomacy participated in the extraordinary meeting.<\/p>\n

Community History<\/b><\/p>\n

The Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) was created in Libreville, Gabon, in December 1981, and became operational in 1985 with the aim of promoting cooperation and self-sustainable development, with special emphasis on economic stability and the improvement of living standards.<\/p>\n

ECCAS policy includes a plan to eliminate customs duties between member states and establish a common external tariff, consolidate the free movement of goods, services and people, improve industry, transport and communications, the union of commercial banks and the creation of a development fund.<\/p>\n

ECCAS is one of the pillars of the African Economic Community (ECA), but official contacts between both have not yet been established due to the latter’s inactivity since 1992.<\/p>\n

The other pillars are the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Arab Maghreb Union (UMA).<\/p>\n

In addition, the Community maintains relations with the African Union, NEPAD, the African Development Bank and UNECA (United Nations Economic Commission for Africa).<\/p>\n

Some countries of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) are also members of CEMAC (Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa), such as Chad, Central African Republic, Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and Sa\u0303o Tome\u0301 and Pri\u0301ncipe.<\/p>\n
