Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The representative of the United Nations in Angola (UN), Zahira Virani, yesterday, in Luanda, encouraged young Angolans to cultivate human rights and solidarity.<\/b><\/p>\n

During a meeting at the Catholic University of Angola, Zahira Virani said that it is \u201ca great pride to see a large percentage of women attending higher education in that educational institution\u201d.<\/p>\n

Virani expressed hope to see youth, particularly women, exploring new cultures more and working in organizations that help transform the world and fight social and gender inequalities.<\/p>\n

During the event, students and professors asked the members of the United Nations present questions about the 2030 Agenda and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.<\/p>\n

The rector of the Catholic University of Angola (UCAN), Maria de Assunc\u0327a\u0303o, said that universities play a fundamental role in the formation of tomorrow’s leaders and, in line with the United Nations charter, UCAN has done a lot to “reaffirm the faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person and in the equality of rights between men and women\u201d.<\/p>\n

According to the rector Maria de Assunc\u0327a\u0303o, the staff trained by the Catholic University, more than just obtaining diplomas, leave with a sense of deep commitment to humility and social justice.<\/p>\n

Maria de Assunc\u0327a\u0303o praised the “intense effort that the UN makes to maintain international peace and security, protect human rights, promote sustainable development, humanitarian aid and ensure respect for international law”.<\/p>\n

Regarding the theme of the meeting, “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” he said that UCAN has sought to address more prominently the 17 Goals, in the fields of teaching, research and university extension.<\/p>\n
