Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Angolan Athletics Federation (FAA) lost its partnership with the “ALIMO” brand of the Mafricom group, which was the official sponsor of the 65th edition of the year-end race that, in 2021, took to the streets on March 26, exceptionally , due to the increase in cases of the Covid-19 pandemic. The information was confirmed by Bernardo Joa\u0303o, president of that institution.<\/b><\/p>\n

“Alimo (company of the Mafricom business group) had every desire to continue with us, but for internal reasons it informed us that it will probably be available in the next edition”, he said.<\/p>\n

Despite Bernardo Joa\u0303o saying that “nothing is related”, in a “press release” that reached our editorial office, the FAA announced the start of registration for the 66th edition, on the website “www.tchacosport.com” with an entry fee of 2500 Kz, more than 150 percent over the 600 Kz charged in the previous race.<\/p>\n

Bernardo Joa\u0303o justifies the increase with the “introduction of technological supports that will give credibility to the results of the competition”.<\/p>\n

“We have the cost of the kit, we want other standards for our race, we have to safeguard the official results,” he added.<\/p>\n

The Sa\u0303o Silvestre race is credible and in each edition (it was like this in the previous one), it has the presence of a surveyor from the international federation, who works in Luanda, the day before, to evaluate and certify the route. For the calculation of the results it counts on technological support of timing.<\/p>\n

Asked about the need for the announced fee, since the competition is also supported by the State, through the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the president of the federation said that “the State support for the competition cannot even pay the prizes”.<\/p>\n

The 2021 edition, according to Novo Jornal, was budgeted at 81 million Kwanzas, of which 20 percent are covered by the State and the rest by sponsors.<\/p>\n

The Angolans David Elias and Ernestina Paulino, both working for Interclube, were the winners of the last edition and received prizes in Kwanzas, equivalent to USD 3 thousand.<\/p>\n
