Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, said that the European Union should look at Africa as a relationship \u201cbetween equals\u201d, \u201cnot paternalistic\u201d and without forgetting the impact of the \u201ccolonial system\u201d on African economies.<\/b><\/p>\n

“Europe should relate to African countries on an equal basis and it should never be a paternalistic relationship, it should be a relationship of equals, but also a relationship based on our historical understanding of what happened in the past”, he underlined, during the meeting with the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sa\u0301nchez, quoted by EFE.<\/p>\n

Cyril Ramaphosa added that African countries are now at a stage where they are trying to develop their economies but are conditioned \u201cby restrictions, by rules that do not really have a robust scientific basis\u201d, as is the case with obstacles to the export of African products to EU markets. European (EU).<\/p>\n

“These are restrictions that limit trade, but more than that, they have a devastating effect on the opportunities and living conditions that could have millions of people on the African continent,” said the South African President, who was speaking in Pretoria, at a conference with the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sa\u0301nchez.<\/p>\n

The South African President stressed that he defends that European restrictions on products from Africa must be addressed, on a basis of friendship and good understanding, as they are very serious\u201d, considering that Europe must support African States, in a joint work, to answer the questions of poverty, unemployment or social inequality.<\/p>\n

Ramaphosa addressed this issue because of citrus production, in which Spain is the world leader, followed by South Africa, which faces, however, restrictions on exports to the EU.<\/p>\n

For his part, Pedro Sa\u0301nchez assured that Spain and South Africa will “work together, also in Brussels, to find solutions to this situation”.<\/p>\n
