Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Head of State, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperanc\u0327a da Costa, ministers of State and other members of the Executive participated, this Sunday morning, in the celebrations of the Central Act of the Jubilee of the Angolan Methodist Episcopate: 50 years in service of the Church of Christ.<\/b><\/p>\n

In this religious activity, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o was also accompanied by the First Lady, Ana Dias Lourenc\u0327o.<\/p>\n

The event, which took place in the multipurpose pavilion of Kilamba, was attended by the first Angolan bishop of the United Methodist Church, Dom Emi\u0301lio de Carvalho, the bishops Gaspar Joa\u0303o Domingos and Jose\u0301 Quipungo, and served to reflect on the path of Angolan Methodism along the of these five decades and sowing seeds for the challenges of the future, remaining faithful to the principles that guided its foundation.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, the President of the Republic, invited to make some remarks, said: “the prodigal son returns home”, remembering that he is the son of a pastor father of the Methodist Church.<\/p>\n

Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o recognized the Methodist Church’s commitment to the formation of Angolan youth over decades, through scholarships and the various missions spread throughout the national territory.<\/p>\n

The Bishop is a priest, set apart for the exercise of a specific administrative task. He is the General Superintendent of the Church. The specific responsibilities of a Bishop (office of election) were set out in the “First Book of Discipline of Methodism” in 1784: Fixing Episcopal Appointments; Travel through the Districts; Direct the main affairs of the Conference; Ordain Bishops, Elders, Deacons; Be responsible to the Conference.<\/p>\n
