Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Angolan Ombudsman and director of the International Institute of Ombudsmen for the Africa region, Florbela Ara\u00fajo, participated, Tuesday (25), by videoconference, in a meeting organized by the Association of African Ombudsmen and Mediators (AOMA). ) and the International Institute of Ombudsmen (IOI), which approached the importance of belonging to both regional and international organizations.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to a note from the Angolan Ombudsman’s Office, the speakers essentially discussed the function, functioning and role that AOMA and IOI play in Africa and in the world, in the defense of the fundamental rights and freedoms of their users.<\/p>\n

The main objective of the meeting was to inform and remind the ombudsmen, as well as their collaborators, about the value of being a member of those organisations. During the event, synergies were created aimed at raising awareness, exchanging information and promoting a high spirit of inter-help among members, through learning and shared experiences.<\/p>\n

In their approaches, the speakers also mentioned some advantages of belonging to the network of providers, among which the benefit of free training, publication of materials on human rights, participation in workshops, international conferences, as well as greater cooperation and interaction between associates and the strengthening of friendship ties.<\/p>\n

During the session, it was also mentioned that the Research Center for Ombudsmen has served as a fundamental instrument in the training of the “ombudsman”, making it more promising, similar to the institutions dedicated to the promotion of human rights, transparency , good governance and the rule of law in Africa.<\/p>\n

The IOI was created in 1978 and the AOMA in 2003 and their main mission is to strengthen the Ombudsman’s mandate to defend the rights, freedoms and guarantees of citizens across the continent and internationally.<\/p>\n
