Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Provincial Government of Cunene began to create conditions to, within a short time, begin the process of distributing land for the practice of agriculture along the 165 kilometers of the Cafu Channel, so that the populations become self-sustainable in the field of food production.<\/b><\/p>\n

In total, there are three thousand arable hectares along the Channel, which will benefit another 235 thousand farmers, according to an announcement by the deputy governor of Cunene for Technical Services and Infrastructure, Anto\u0301nio Matias, during a visit to the deployment area.<\/p>\n

Anto\u0301nio Matias’s trip was carried out to investigate the conditions that are being created, including the subdivision that will allow the riverside peasants of the Cafu Channel to have the possibility of investing in the production of food goods, urging them to live, from now on, differently.<\/p>\n

“It is true that there is a centuries-old tradition of the people of Cunene, but they also do agriculture, growing tomatoes, beans, corn, potatoes, onions, cassava and everything that helps to improve the population’s diet and increase incomes”, he said.<\/p>\n

Anto\u0301nio Matias said that the Government is carrying out the subdivision and management of the land in the light of requests from those interested in practicing agriculture along the Canal: “we are working with all the sectors involved in the process so that, soon, the lots will be delivered to the farmers\u201d, he stressed.<\/p>\n

The deputy governor said that the goal is to ensure the balanced development of populations and reduce the problem of food shortages as a result of the drought that cyclically affects Cunene.<\/p>\n

Seed distribution<\/b><\/p>\n

The director of the Provincial Office of Agriculture and Fisheries in Cunene, Carlos Jose\u0301, guaranteed the delivery of means and work instruments to peasants who are organized in cooperatives and associations and reside along the Channel, to increase production levels, improve of products extracted from the field and production.<\/p>\n

He added that the delivery of said means aims to guarantee the promotion of small businesses and improve the living conditions of rural families affected by the drought.<\/p>\n

Carlos Jose\u0301 said that the farmers will receive tractors and implements, motor-pumps, plows, hoes, fertilizers, improved seeds and other agricultural inputs to minimize some of the difficulties they face on a daily basis.<\/p>\n

The Cafu pipeline is the first of five projects of its kind created by the Angolan government as part of a program of structural actions to combat drought in Cunene, benefiting 235,000 people in the districts of Ombadja, Cuanhama and Namacunde.<\/p>\n
