{"id":19946,"date":"2022-11-09T09:08:24","date_gmt":"2022-11-09T09:08:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/angola\/all-news\/cop27-imf-calls-for-climate-smart-investment-in-africa"},"modified":"2022-11-09T12:24:41","modified_gmt":"2022-11-09T12:24:41","slug":"cop27-imf-calls-for-climate-smart-investment-in-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/angola\/all-news\/cop27-imf-calls-for-climate-smart-investment-in-africa","title":{"rendered":"COP27: IMF calls for climate-smart investment in Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Angola. <\/strong><\/span><b>The International Monetary Fund&#8217;s managing director said on Tuesday that climate change can create &#8220;excellent opportunities&#8221; for the private sector in Africa, adding the investing in the low-carbon economy can create jobs.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Africa is disproportionately affected by climatic events&#8221; such as droughts, floods and coastal erosion,&#8221; Kristalina Georgieva said.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking in Egypt, which is hosting the the COP 27climate summit, Georgieva said this creates hunger, raises the risk of famine and even leads to insecurity &#8220;for the continent, but also for the rest of the world.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Scores of presidents, along with thousands of diplomats, climate negotiators, business leaders, activists and journalists descended on the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh to take part in discussions and negotiations slated to go through Nov. 18.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Jobs in renewable energy are much more plentiful and better paid than the traditional jobs in coal mining,&#8221; Georgieva said.<\/p>\n<p>Georgieva&#8217;s comments came after she attended an event that aims at accelerating adaptation in Africa, which was attended by various prominent African figures.<\/p>\n<p>Patrick V.
