Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Angolan ambassador to Cuba, Maria Ca\u0302ndida Teixeira, thanked, this Thursday, in Havana, the support of the Cuban people to the Angolan, especially the historical leader Fidel Castro, which culminated in a long struggle for liberation against the Portuguese colonial regime. on November 11, 1975.<\/b><\/p>\n

In a gesture of gratitude and a sign of respect, a tribute was paid the day before to the men and women of Cuba who between 1975 and 1991 fought alongside the Angolans.<\/p>\n

In front of the Pantheon of the Colon Cemetery, in Havana, where the mortal remains of the Veterans of the Wars of Independence lie, Ca\u0302ndida Teixeira said that it is a tribute to the sons of the fatherland of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, under whose orders willing to move away from Cuba to help another people free themselves from the shackles of colonialism.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the occasion of the celebration of the 47th anniversary of Angola’s Independence, Maria Ca\u0302ndida Teixeira said that “the date we celebrate is a joyful one for all Angolans, as it represents the culmination of a long struggle for national liberation against the Portuguese colonial regime, where the Angolan people took control of their own destiny\u201d said the Angolan diplomat.<\/p>\n

Ca\u0302ndida Teixeira said that Angola “established itself as a sovereign and independent state during the difficult and complex context of the cold war, in a bipolar world divided by confrontation within the international community”.<\/p>\n

The diplomat reaffirmed Angola’s role in the context of nations and pointed out that, as a full member of the United Nations, the country is committed to protecting the environment, forests, seas, rivers, as well as other natural resources that are crucial for the well-being of peoples and the sustainability of societies.<\/p>\n

Maria Ca\u0302ndida Teixeira also recalled that Angola is preparing to host the meeting of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States, to be held from 6 to 10 December this year and will assume the presidency of that organization.<\/p>\n

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Construction, Rene\u0301 Mesa, the deputy ministers of Foreign Affairs and of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Anayansi Rodri\u0301guez and De\u0301borah Rivas, respectively, in addition to Cuban civil society organizations, diplomatic corps accredited in Cuba, Angolan community and staff from the external mission in Havana.<\/p>\n
