Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Ministry of Industry and Commerce in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) will hold a seminar on the Trade Policy Review Mechanism (MEPC) until the 25th of November in Luanda.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to a note from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the main objectives of the training cycle are to train participants in the preparation of government reports, to make them understand the importance of the MEPC in the context of WTO transparency, issues related to the multilateral trading system, based on rules and their impact on national and regional trade policies of member countries.<\/p>\n

Topics under analysis<\/p>\n

During the more than seven days of training, the source indicates, various topics will be addressed such as the SADC Free Trade Area Agreement – Main Forecasts, Opportunities and Challenges for Angola, Multilateral, Regional and Continental Trade Defense Instruments, of Notifications and Transparency in International Trade Agreements, among others.<\/p>\n

In addition to workers from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, employees and other ministerial departments involved in trade policy also participate in the seminar, with emphasis on Finance, Economy and Planning, Agriculture and Forestry, Environment, Culture and Tourism, as well as other entities. specialized public agencies such as the Angolan Private Investment and Export Promotion Agency (AIPEX), the General Tax Administration (AGT), including the respective professional associations.<\/p>\n

Angola has been a member of the World Trade Organization since 1996, and is considered a Least Developed Country (LDC), it will undergo the 3rd Trade Policy Review in 2023.<\/p>\n

Criteria<\/b><\/p>\n

The three criteria for ranking Least Developed Countries are the Gross National Product (GNP) per capita, the Human Assets Index and the Economic Vulnerability Index.<\/p>\n

The process is complex and involves considerable challenges, and in the case of Angola, which focuses on substantially improving human capital development and economic vulnerability indices, it requires a robust, smooth and effective National Transition Strategy.<\/p>\n
