Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angola may be admitted as an Observer Member of the Organization Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), during the 18th Summit of Heads of State and Government, taking place in Djerba, Tunisia, an event in which the Minister of Foreign Affairs represents the President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lawrence.<\/b><\/p>\n

Te\u0301te Anto\u0301nio, who has been in the city of Djerba since the early hours of yesterday, is fulfilling a specific agenda within the framework of expanding multilateral relations, as part of the Summit that also marks the commemorations of the 50th anniversary of the launch of Francophonie.<\/p>\n

The country’s intention to become a member of the OIF, with Observer status, was presented at the end of May 2019, in a meeting that the Head of State, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, had with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, within the scope of the official visit to France, in which the French President expressed his support.<\/p>\n

According to a note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to which Jornal de Angola had access, the head of Angolan diplomacy says that the intention of the State is based on the fact that Angola has privileged relations with French-speaking countries, in addition to allowing it to strengthen integration with its neighbors , in particular, and with the Portuguese-speaking community in general.<\/p>\n

This integration, he said, also has a strategic objective of inserting the country in the concert of nations.<\/p>\n

For Minister Te\u0301te Anto\u0301nio, this relationship is a unique opportunity for Angola to obtain gains that correspond to some of its foreign policy aspirations, as, through this, it will be able to reinforce integration with neighboring countries with historical, cultural and blood ties.<\/p>\n

The Summit of the International Francophone Organization (OIF) brings together several Heads of State and Government, or their representatives, from the 88 member countries, with emphasis on Presidents Kais Saied, of Tunisia, Emmanuel Macron, of France, Makc Sall, of Senegal , Ali Bongo from Gabon, Paul Kagame from Rwanda, and E\u0301variste Ndayishimiye from Burundi.<\/p>\n

The event takes place under the motto “Connectivity in diversity: Digital as a vector of development and solidarity in the French-speaking space”.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, the leaders discussed “The proliferation of conflict crises caused by the extension of the global terrorist threat, the rise of fundamentalism, xenophobia and populism”. Covid-19 pandemic on the entirety of the world\u2019s economies\u201d.<\/p>\n

The International Organization of Francophonie, of which Angola can be admitted as an observer member, is an institutional mechanism dedicated to the approval of the French language and the implementation of political, educational, economic and cultural cooperation of the Member States, which share similar principles and values, such as peace, democracy, human rights and environmental protection, among others.<\/p>\n
