Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The deputy governor for the Political, Social and Economic Sector of Ui\u0301ge, So\u0301nia Arlete, urged the existing driving schools in the province to approve the licensing of driving licenses only to those students\/applicants who have demonstrated the ability to absorb theoretical content and practical for carrying out the activity.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to the official, the current model for assessing students in driving schools is not very effective and results in an increase in the number of accidents and deaths on the province’s roads.<\/p>\n

“We want, here, to alert instructors and owners of driving schools in the province to review the certification model for their students who must be licensed to drive by the Department of Traffic and Road Safety, as many holders of driving licenses are the principal involved or promoters of road accidents\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

The minister denounced the attribution of driving licenses to citizens who attended training at driving schools or who do not have theoretical and practical qualifications for the profession, thus increasing the road accident rate.<\/p>\n

So\u0301nia Arlete recognized that, in addition to the various factors identified as the cause of road accidents, the poor condition of many primary and secondary roads in the province has contributed significantly to road accidents.<\/p>\n

He assured that the action plan for the execution of public projects for the province of Ui\u0301ge for next year includes the rehabilitation of roads in order to provide better conditions for circulation and with due security.<\/p>\n

The head of the Department of Road, Traffic and Road Safety of the Provincial Command of the National Police in Ui\u0301ge, chief superintendent Filipe Chimpolo, said that in the first half of this year there were 250 accidents, which resulted in the death of 37 people and 1,300 injured, with material damage valued at 9.5 million kwanzas.<\/p>\n
