Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Information Technologies reiterated, yesterday, in Luanda, the Executive’s commitment to continue supporting victims of any type of violence, whether physical or moral, as well as the empowerment of women.<\/b><\/p>\n

Pascoal Ale\u0301 Fernandes, who was speaking at the opening of the II Edition of the “REMA For ICTs” Festival, under the motto “ICTs in the fight against violence against women”, said that the event proves how much young people have been dedicated to developing projects and ideas , aiming to combat violence against women in the country.<\/p>\n

“Information and Communication Technologies play a fundamental role in the development and competitiveness of any country on a world scale”, he said, adding that violence against women is a social scourge that contributes to the breakdown and emotional instability of the family, the fundamental nucleus of society.<\/p>\n

According to the official, society must be attentive to the denouncements made possible by ICTs, in order to combat cases of violence against women.<\/p>\n

The Secretary of State recalled that data from the Ministry of Social Action, Family and Women’s Promotion, referring to the nine municipalities of Luanda, show that cases of domestic violence tend to increase, with emphasis on bodily and moral offenses, evasion of parenthood, breach of allowance, abandonment and death threats.<\/p>\n

“The Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) were considered and used once again as strategic and timely tools in the fight against violence against women”, he said.<\/p>\n

He added that Information and Communication Technologies facilitate the dissemination of knowledge.<\/p>\n

Registered cases<\/b><\/p>\n

In turn, the head of the Technology and Information Department of the Angolan Media Library Network (REMA), Ana Campos, defended the urgent need for the Executive to create new policies to combat domestic violence in the country, as it presents alarming figures.<\/p>\n

He made it known that, from January to October of the current year, 1,064 cases of violence against women were registered throughout the country.<\/p>\n

“We have to look more at technologies and the creation of effective applications that can prevent atrocity situations”, he recalled.<\/p>\n

Ana Campos asked the Government to invest more in projects for young people working with Information and Communication Technologies, which are fundamental for the development and competitiveness of the country.<\/p>\n

The event also served to awaken youth interest in Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), social innovation, sociocultural entrepreneurship and the principle of sharing knowledge among young people.<\/p>\n

At the venue (Mediateca de Luanda), a hundred young people gathered to present and exchange views on different areas.<\/p>\n

The Angolan Media Library Network is a project of the Angolan Government that aims to provide the country with a set of infrastructures that allow supporting the population in terms of education, technology, science, culture and art.<\/p>\n

Participating in the II Edition of the Festival REMA For ICTs, public and private universities, as well as secondary and technical-professional education institutions.<\/p>\n
