Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Embassy of the United Kingdom in Angola, on Friday, in Cabinda, presented to the academic community of the province, the scholarship program for masters, called “chevening”, financed by the British Government, in an act witnessed by its ambassador , Roger String.<\/b><\/p>\n

The diplomat, who was speaking to the heads of Higher Education institutions with emphasis on the 11 de Novembro University, Higher Institute of Educational Sciences, Polytechnic Institute of Cabinda, Higher Private Lusi\u0301adas Institute, teachers and students, said that the scholarship program of study is funded by the British Government and partner organizations with the aim of training young people and adults with innovative thinking and leadership.<\/p>\n

The British diplomat recalled that the next phase of applications for Masters scholarships will be open in June and July 2023, with free access to all interested students who have completed their degree, aged between 24 and 40 years old, and who are fluent in the English language.<\/p>\n

The training period, whose classes will be held entirely in the United Kingdom, will last one year, which the diplomat considers to be enough time to train students “who, after graduation, can implement change in Angola”, said Roger String.<\/p>\n

The diplomat pointed out that scholarships are available in 160 developing countries, particularly for Anglophone and French-speaking people, with special emphasis on Angola as a Portuguese-speaking country where the program encompasses the academic community of the 18 provinces.<\/p>\n

“This program has been running since 1983, but in Angola it was implemented in 1985 and since then, 120 Angolans have graduated from different courses”, he pointed out.<\/p>\n

The Deputy Governor for the Political and Social Sector, Miguel dos Santos de Oliveira, informed Ambassador Roger String that Higher Education in the province is booming and with the availability of scholarships for master’s degrees by the Embassy of the United Kingdom , “only strengthens the staff of this part of the national territory even more\u201d.<\/p>\n

In turn, the heads of several higher education institutions, including teachers and students, present at the presentation of the scholarship program, their opinions converged, thanking the United Kingdom Embassy for having contemplated the province of Cabinda in the master’s scholarship program, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, expressing concern related to the fact that access to candidacy for the scholarship is conditional on mastering the English language, which goes against their expectations taking into account that Angola is a Portuguese-speaking country.<\/p>\n

On the sidelines of the meeting with the academic community of the province, Roger String met with the local business class to find out about the potential of the region and the possibility of English businessmen investing in the province.<\/p>\n
