Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, underlined, this Monday, in reaction to the death of General Abreu Muhengo Ukwachitembo \u201cKamorteiro\u201d, that \u201chis name remains forever indelibly linked to the definitive end of the military conflict in Angola, for having been , on behalf of UNITA, one of the signatories of the Peace Agreement for Angola, on 4 April 2002\u201d.<\/b><\/p>\n

In the message, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o mentions that, from that time on, General “Kamorteiro”, who held leadership positions in the Angolan Armed Forces, developed a meritorious action in favor of the country’s pacification and development.<\/p>\n

The President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Angolan Armed Forces stresses that it was with deep regret that “I learned of the premature death, due to illness, of General Abreu Uakwachitembo Kamorteiro, who currently held the position of Chief of Staff- Deputy General of the Angolan Armed Forces\u201d.<\/p>\n

In this hour of pain and mourning, the President of the Republic “expresses his deep condolences to the bereaved family, extending to all his friends and companions in struggle\u201d.<\/p>\n

Man of Science and Military Art<\/b><\/p>\n

In reaction to the death of General Abreu Muhengo Ukwatchitembo “Kamorteiro”, which occurred in the early hours of yesterday, at the Main Military Hospital of Luanda, the Minister of Defense and Veteran of the Homeland said that the country loses “an excellent student of Military Science and Art” .<\/p>\n

Joa\u0303o Ernesto dos Santos “Liberdade” underlines, in a condolence note, that “the country and the Angolan Armed Forces, in particular, lose a brave political-military professional and an excellent student of military science and art, who still had much to give in the consolidation process of the young military institution\u201d.<\/p>\n

The deceased, he emphasizes, was a military professional of high and exemplary quality, who had his political-military trajectory initiated in the ranks of UNITA, in the process of the Liberation Struggle for Independence against Portuguese colonialism, having, on his own merit, exercised the highest positions in FALA’s military hierarchy, a fact that allowed him to be one of the co-signatories of the Peace and National Reconciliation Agreements initialed on 4 April 2002 between the Angolan Government and UNITA.<\/p>\n

The signing of the Peace Accords, says the message, was preceded by the signing of the Luena Memorandum of Understanding. Subsequently, the deceased held important positions in the hierarchy of the Angolan Armed Forces, in which stand out those of Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics and Infrastructures and, finally, that of Chief of State \u2013 Deputy General Staff for Area Operational and Development.<\/p>\n

In this hour of pain and mourning with which I join, on behalf of the Ministry of National Defence, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Homeland, and on my own behalf, “I bow before the memory of the deceased and present to the General Staff of the FAA and the bereaved family express my deepest condolences for the unfortunate event\u201d.<\/p>\n

Minister Joa\u0303o Ernesto dos Santos “Liberdade” underlines that it was with the deepest consternation that he learned of the physical passing of General “Kamorteiro\u201d.<\/p>\n

In another message, the General Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces makes it known that, in this hour of pain and mourning, “it bows before the memory of the deceased and presents its deep feelings of regret to the bereaved family”.<\/p>\n

In the same document, it states that General Kamorteiro lost his life at the Main Military Hospital-Superior Institute, victim of illness. General Geraldo Abreu Muhengo Ukwachitembo “Kamorteiro\u201d was born in the municipality of Andulo, Bie\u0301, on March 28, 1958. He began his military career in February 1975, as an ex-FALA.<\/p>\n

After the country became aware of the death of the general, who signed the Peace Agreement of April 4, 2002, by UNITA, with the head of the General Staff of the FAA, at the time General Armando da Cruz Neto, by the Angolan Government, deserved the strongest reactions.<\/p>\n

Thus, several political and military personalities highlighted his qualities, stressing that the deceased was a figure with “extraordinary intelligence and a great sense of State”.<\/p>\n

The news of his death left many of his peers with low morale who, once requested by the report, preferred to remain silent, while some commented anonymously. For many, Abreu Ukwatchitembo Mohengo “Kamorteiro”, was a man of unique education and a true “command”, who managed to “captivate anyone around him, with his serene gesture”.<\/p>\n

For Francisco Pedro Anto\u0301nio, known as Colonel “Norton”, operative officer of the late Deputy Chief of Staff General, General “Kamorteiro”, in addition to being a renowned leader, had an exceptional ability to interact with everyone.<\/p>\n

“He liked to talk a lot, and didn’t sit still. Always willing and available to work, he said I’m a command, and a commander cannot stand still.” With his death, the country lost a great picture, he pointed out.<\/p>\n

Colonel Norton, who was responsible for taking care of and monitoring the deceased’s agenda, pointed out that, until last Sunday, “general Kamorteiro was fine, without any sign of malaise”. On the same day, he continues, after practicing physical activities, as usual, “he dismissed me, saying that he intended to rest and watch the world cup games, because he would have a meeting the next day”.<\/p>\n

According to the deceased’s family, he said, after dinner and watching the games, he decided to go to bed earlier. “When the wife went to rest, she noticed unusual breathing, so she tried to wake him up, but the general no longer reacted”, he says, stating that, then, with the support of the guards, he was taken to the Main Military Hospital. , where he died.<\/p>\n

In turn, the reforming general Baltazar Diogo Cristova\u0303o recognized that General Kamorteiro knew how to understand with intelligence and mastery the gains of peace. To ANGOP, the current Angolan ambassador to Morocco highlighted the fact that the deceased was one of the forerunners of the integration of former FALA soldiers into the Angolan Armed Forces. He stated that “Kamorteiro knew how to embrace peace, stability and live in difference, focusing on a single and indivisible Angola\u201d.<\/p>\n

“General Karmoteiro leaves the legacy of a good servant of the country, which military society, in particular, will not forget”, he said.<\/p>\n

Man of multiple functions<\/b><\/p>\n

General “Kamorteiro” was an instructor, platoon commander and head of operations for the Region. Owner of a vast curriculum, the deceased was also a professor of military topography and assistant in social sciences in the field of historical materialism, at the Centro de Estudos Comandante Kapesi Kafundanga (CECKK).<\/p>\n

He was second in command of the FAA’s Logistics and Infrastructure Command and deputy chief of the General Staff for the Administrative area, deputy chief of the General Staff for Logistics and Infrastructure and Chief of Staff \u2013 General Staff deputy for the Armed Forces Operational and Development Area, a position he held until his death. PhD student in comparative transnational contemporary history at the University of E\u0301vora. He was also an assistant professor of Angolan history at the Agostinho Neto University.<\/p>\n

UNITA spokesperson, Marcial Dachala, considered General “Kamorteiro” a reference in the history of Angola. He added that he leaves an important legacy, which will be continued by all those who knew and worked with him, not only within the FAA but, also, by those who were his companions.<\/p>\n

“Kamorteiro stays with us while we continue on this adventure that is life”. Marcial Dachala conveyed feelings of grief to the bereaved family.<\/p>\n
