Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The provinces of the South and East of Angola will benefit a total of US$42 million from the Green Climate Fund, for initiatives aimed at better practices in the management of fires, announced Tuesday (29), in Luanda, the representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Gherda Barreto Cajina.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking to the press, after an audience granted to her by the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperanc\u0327a da Costa, Gherda Barreto Cajina said that the US$42 million would be channeled to Angola, with technical assistance from FAO.<\/p>\n

Gherda Cajina also clarified that the amount will help to implement, within the population, ecological practices in the traditional management of fires.<\/p>\n

The availability of funding, he stressed, is due to the work carried out by the Angolan Government in combating bad practices in terms of carbon production.<\/p>\n

Cajina said that she was informed, by the Vice-President of the Republic, of another initiative, called “Crescimento Azul”, with which Angola will access the Blue Finance Funds. With these funds, the country intends to work together with other countries of Africa on climate resilience at the level of the most vulnerable populations.<\/p>\n

With the election of a Vice-President in Angola, the FAO representative in Angola considers it opportune for the country to lead climate resilience initiatives at continental level, uniting voices for more solidary financing and global management of climate change.<\/p>\n

Gherda Canjina said that, while the Head of State, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, has been concerned with issues of security and peace in Africa, the Vice-President of the Republic is taking good note of initiatives on issues of the environment and climate resilience.<\/p>\n

The FAO representative also said that she and Esperanc\u0327a da Costa discussed Angola’s active participation in the COP-27, mainly regarding the need to reinforce a stronger voice on the continent calling for a fairer climate agreement.<\/p>\n

Relations with FAO<\/b><\/p>\n

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) intends to improve, in the short term, relations with Angola, in accordance with the will expressed in Sharm El-Sheik, Egypt, by the deputy director, Maria Helena Semedo, at the meeting with the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperanc\u0327a da Costa.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the press, on the sidelines of the high-level event parallel to the 27th United Nations Conference on Climate Change, Maria Helena Semedo said that relations between FAO and Angola are already considered good, but the intention is to raise them to another level .<\/p>\n

Maria Helena Semedo said that the meeting with the Vice-President of the Republic addressed aspects related to the food production value chain, strengthening the connection between sea and land, as well as the need to enhance women’s work in the field of Fisheries.<\/p>\n

Vice President received Ambassador of Namibia<\/b><\/p>\n

Yesterday afternoon, the Vice-President of the Republic received, in audience, the ambassador of Namibia in Angola, Patrick Nandango, who at the end of the meeting considered bilateral relations good. Patrick Nandango said that Angola and Namibia have several common interests, which is why, he explained, there was a need to hold a meeting with the Vice-President of the Republic to address some issues of bilateral interest, fundamentally in the Water and Energy sectors.<\/p>\n
