Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The ombudsman, Florbela Arau\u0301jo, expressed yesterday her intention to cooperate with the Norwegian Embassy in matters related to human rights and protection of \u201ccrimes against torture\u201d.<\/b><\/p>\n

Florbela Arau\u0301jo, who was speaking during a meeting with the Norwegian ambassador to Angola, Bjornar Dahl Hotvdt, said that the Diplomatic Mission of that European country also intends to cooperate in creating conditions for the ombudsman to be awarded the category of National Institution of Human Rights and Entity to fight Crimes against Torture, similar to countries such as Portugal, Spain, South Africa and Cape Verde.<\/p>\n

The Norwegian diplomat highlighted the importance of the role of the Ombudsman as an institution that watches over the rights, freedoms and guarantees of citizens, having taken the opportunity to share his experience in annual sessions on the subject linked to citizens’ rights.<\/p>\n

Bjornar Dahl Hotvdt also referred that, in addition to issues related to human rights, Angola and Norway maintain strategic relations, characterized by economic diplomacy. These relationships, he said, have contributed to the insertion of Angolan staff in the labor market.<\/p>\n

The ambassador highlighted that the recent visit of President Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o to Norway to Norway strengthened the ties of cooperation between the two countries, which allowed, in a way, greater cooperation between the Norwegian Embassy and local human rights institutions.<\/p>\n

In the end, in a balancing act, the ombudsman considered the working meeting with Bjornar Hotvdt positive, to whom she requested Norway’s support for Angola’s candidacy with the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions.<\/p>\n

The diplomat recognized the challenge that the Angolan ombudsman faces in achieving this qualification and guaranteed support and transmission of experience for the fulfillment of this goal.<\/p>\n
