Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>More than 10,000 elderly people benefit from social cash transfers, within the framework of the “Kwenda” Social Protection Strengthening Programme, revealed Friday in Luanda, the National Director of Social Action.<\/b><\/p>\n

Fa\u0301tima Cabral explained that, as a result, many elderly people have been having access to the minimum monthly income, valued at 8,500, in order to see their social condition improved.<\/p>\n

The director of that area assigned to the Ministry of Social Action, Family and Women’s Promotion (MASFAMU) stressed that this value not only serves to buy goods and pay for other services, but also to create income within families.<\/p>\n

Fa\u0301tima Cabral said that there are other social projects aimed at the elderly, including the Generation and Income Programme.<\/p>\n

At the moment, the Social Action sector registers 534,000 elderly people, who have been assisted within the scope of programs and projects to improve living conditions.<\/p>\n

The national director of Social Action, who was speaking at the Home for the Elderly “Beiral”, in an activity alluding to the National Day for the Elderly, marked on 30 November, guaranteed that the Government will continue to reinforce attention to a set of actions to improve the condition of the elderly person.<\/p>\n

Significant Contributions<\/b><\/p>\n

The acting director of the Provincial Office for Social Action, Family and Gender Equality, Olga Eduardo Andre\u0301, stressed that elderly people in a changing world help to remember the significant contributions they still have to make to communities.<\/p>\n

“In Angolan culture, elderly people have always been highly esteemed and have always been given a special social status, as they are sources of wisdom and have influenced who we are and who we aspire to be”, said Olga Eduardo Andre\u0301.<\/p>\n

The acting director admitted that this is a great opportunity to celebrate the lives of senior citizens, while highlighting the opportunities as well as the challenges that arise in aging.<\/p>\n

Therefore, he stressed that the November 30 celebration also provides an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of leaving no one behind, especially in the context of the 2021-2030 Declaration as the UN Decade for Healthy Aging.<\/p>\n

Olga Eduardo Andre\u0301 stated that, in recent years, less good occurrences have been witnessed affecting elderly people, hence the need to combat increasingly vulnerable situations.<\/p>\n

He also referred to a series of challenges, which include overcoming the Covid-19 pandemic, the worsening of the climate crisis, family abandonment, accusations of witchcraft, among others.<\/p>\n

“Our task, as a society and the Government of Luanda, is to face the challenges of longevity and promote its potential”, he said, adding that further progress should be made in social and economic inclusion actions in the implementation of policies to combat poverty. .<\/p>\n

The director defended that the social protection of the elderly should be taken wherever this group is, through institutions or homes for the elderly belonging to the Ministry of guardianship and partners.<\/p>\n

This exercise, in the view of Olga Eduardo Andre\u0301, is fundamental because “the elderly are the greatest source of knowledge and experience we have, which is why we must make efforts to guarantee their active involvement, full participation and essential contributions\u201d.<\/p>\n

In this way, the acting provincial director believes that the promise enshrined in the Sustainable Development Goals on lifelong learning, strong social protection, long-term, accessible and quality health care, as well as the reduction of digital divide, intergenerational support, dignity and respect for the elderly.<\/p>\n

Ana Alexandre, director of the Beiral nursing home, which welcomes 104 elderly people, 40 of whom are women. announced that, soon, the establishment will have a room, where literacy classes will be taught, in addition to Cutting and Sewing, Carpentry and Locksmithing.<\/p>\n
