Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Augusto Ngangula maternity has, since this Monday, a new intensive care room, reopened by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenc\u0327o.<\/b><\/p>\n

After the ribbon cutting, Ana Dias Lourenc\u0327o said that the new room, with capacity for 12 women, was equipped with modernized means, as part of the social responsibility that the Ngana Zenza Foundation, of which she is the patron, has been carrying out the country.<\/p>\n

The reopening of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), he stressed, was possible, thanks to the appeal of the Ministry of Health, with the support of international partners. With the act, the Ngana Zenza Foundation will help to improve the conditions of medical assistance for all pregnant women who come to that hospital unit.<\/p>\n

The patroness of the Ngana Zenza Foundation assured that better days will come for Maternidade Augusto Ngangula, because much remains to be done in favor of that hospital, which receives many women every day.<\/p>\n

The director of Maternidade Augusto Ngangula, Madalena Diogo, explained that the new area has two isolation rooms, for the most critical cases. The maternity, she underlined, receives many cases of severe pre-eclampsia, hemorrhagic shock, which needed a more modern ICU for a long time. The problem is solved with the reopening of the new room, where 12 or more women will be assisted per day.<\/p>\n

“Previously, due to lack of conditions, we provided an intensive care service in a palliative way. With a lot of effort, we were able to recover patients and discharge them. But, from now on, the service will have better quality”, he stressed.<\/p>\n

The obstetrics-gynecology specialist said that, in addition to women, the new area will also benefit newborns, because the existing ventilators will allow babies with breathing problems to be resuscitated.<\/p>\n

The director referred that, due to lack of conditions, children with respiratory problems were transferred, beforehand, to the Pediatric Hospital David Bernardino. “From now on, they will be monitored in the maternity ward until they are discharged”, she clarified.<\/p>\n

Madalena Diogo explained that the daily average of normal births at the Augusto Ngangula maternity is 35 to 50. Cesarean sections vary from 30 to 35. Monthly, more than 200 patients pass through intensive care.<\/p>\n
