Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The mobile phone users with physical SIM card can now dismiss this device and join the \u201ceSIM\u201d service, which enables them to convert the physical SIM card into a virtual card being placed in the motherboard of the mobile phone, be it an iPhone or in various Android models.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to the Africell commercial operations manager, Ma\u0301rio Mateus, with this technology, that was launched Thursday in Luanda by the mobile phone company, the user will be able to use the mobile phone anywhere in the world, without the need to take it out or buy a SIM card from the country where they are.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe eSIM card provides to our customers a high degree of flexibility and enables them to use their mobile phone wherever they are in the world by giving the possibility to use multiple operators in one mobile phone\u201d, said the official.<\/p>\n

Talking to the press after the public presentation act of the eSIM card which is also known as electronic chip, the official said that it also assures greater security to users by highlighting the reduction of the risk of theft or loss of phones.<\/p>\n

In other words, he clarified that mobile phones with this technology are less prone to theft or loss, because of the security it offers which does not allow the user to exchange the device.<\/p>\n

To have access to the eSIM card, the user must initially check or test if his mobile phone supports this service or is compatible, by dialling *123*9001#, for Africell customers, while other operators’ customers should dial *#06#.<\/p>\n

According to Ma\u0301rio Mateus, the activation of the electronic SIM card is free, and the user must pay the minimum value of 3.300 kwanzas to enjoy a monthly data plan of five gigabytes (5G).<\/p>\n

If it is confirmed that the phone is compatible with the eSIM card service, the user should visit one of the Africell shops or kiosks in order to activate the service and should be accompanied with the Identification Card (ID), Driving Licence or Passport.<\/p>\n

For the Africell CEO, Chris Lundh, the eSIM card service aims essentially to supply quality, simple and secure services to the users.<\/p>\n

According to the CEO, the operator \u0301s expansion programme will continue next year, starting with the launch of the 5G (fifth generation of mobile phones) network in 2023.<\/p>\n

The launching of the eSIM emerged eight months after the entry into operation of Africell in Luanda and it already has more than 6 million subscribers.<\/p>\n

In addition to the capital, where the operator has four shops and hundreds of kiosks, Africell enlarged its services to the centre-west province of Benguela in the last week.<\/p>\n

With over 16 million subscribers in sub-Saharan Africa, the fourth mobile operator in Angola also operates in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Sierra Leone and Gambia.<\/p>\n
