Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The US-Africa Summit, convened by US President Joe Biden to demonstrate his country’s enduring commitment to the African continent, as well as the need to strengthen cooperation on shared global priorities, starts tomorrow through Thursday, here in Washington, with the presence of several African leaders, including the Head of State, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, who has been in the North American capital since Saturday night.<\/b><\/p>\n

The Angolan statesman, one of Joe Biden’s guests at the event, is accompanied by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenc\u0327o, and several members of his Executive, who, here in Washington, will be distributed among the different panels where the way in which the United States of America intends to relate from now on with the African continent will be discussed, with emphasis on the economic sector and cooperation.<\/p>\n

In his communication on the participation of the Head of State in this Summit, his secretary for Institutional Communication and Press Affairs, Lui\u0301s Fernando, said that an intervention by President Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o is expected, on Wednesday, the penultimate day of the Summit, at the Forum of Business, one of the highlights of the event, which will also count on the intervention of the American President, in addition to other personalities.<\/p>\n

“It is also worth mentioning the dinner, on that same day, Wednesday, to which President Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o is invited, which will be offered by the North American Head of State to the statesmen invited to Washington”, highlighted Lui\u0301s Fernando , in your communication.<\/p>\n

Lui\u0301s Fernando also added that the Head of State’s work schedule, in the American capital, reserves a program of audiences, “very full”, through which the Angolan statesman will receive high figures of the North American Administration, with emphasis for Secretary of State Antony Blinken, as well as “high profile\u201d businessmen from this country.<\/p>\n

Business Forum<\/b><\/p>\n

The Business Forum, which is being touted as a central pillar of the Summit, will bring together business and government leaders to promote mutually beneficial partnerships capable of creating jobs and boosting inclusive and sustainable growth on both sides of the Atlantic.<\/p>\n

The Forum is organized by the US Department of Commerce, US Chamber of Commerce and Corporate Council for Africa, in partnership with the Prosper Africa initiative.<\/p>\n

The event will also feature a business room, organized by Prosper Africa, where companies and investors from the US and Africa will announce new commitments.<\/p>\n

Environment in Washington<\/b><\/p>\n

At this moment, it is already notorious, here in Washington, the movement of several African delegations, who travel to this country, to participate in the Summit that will bring together, at the same table, President Joe Biden and African counterparts, in search of new horizons for relations between the USA and the African continent.<\/p>\n

Despite the importance that is attributed to the event, there is, even so, a great expectation in relation to the results that it will be able to produce in the practical plan.<\/p>\n

In an interview aired a few days ago by TPA, President Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o said that the expectation is that this Summit will not be just one more, but that it will be different and bring results in the long and medium term.<\/p>\n

The Head of State also said, in this interview, that he takes the message to his counterpart to this Summit, aimed at mobilizing American private investment in Angola, in order to help diversify the economy and industrialize the country.<\/p>\n

“Our country and our continent are little industrialized and, all of us, aspire to see our continent increasingly industrialized”, he stressed.<\/p>\n

The Head of State stressed that the country has its arms open to receive American investors and presented the return of capital as a guarantee, clarifying that the country has been able, in recent years, to maintain its net international reserves at satisfactory levels, which, as he underlined, it allows the transfer of dividends from investors who want to invest in Angola, in all branches of the economy.<\/p>\n

“Come and invest your resources and multiply them in your own interest, but also in the interest of Angola and the Angolans”, he stressed.<\/p>\n

American president<\/b><\/p>\n

In his communication of July 20, on the announcement of the summit, President Joe Biden clarified that the event will demonstrate the lasting commitment of the United States to Africa and will highlight the importance of US-Africa relations, as well as the increase of cooperation, on shared global priorities.<\/p>\n

He referred that the Summit will be based on shared values, with a view to improving a new economic engagement and strengthening the US-Africa commitment, with democracy and human rights, mitigating the impact of Covid-19 and future pandemics, work collaboratively to strengthen regional and global health, promote food security, peace and security, respond to the climate crisis, and expand diaspora ties.<\/p>\n

“I look forward to hosting leaders from across the African continent in Washington DC December 13-15, 2022 for the US-Africa Leaders Summit,” Biden said, adding that he was looking forward to working with African governments, civil society, diaspora communities in the United States, and with the private sector, to continue to strengthen our shared vision for the future of US-Africa relations.<\/p>\n

The Summit also envisions several other concurrent unofficial side events scheduled by a wide variety of civil society or non-profit organizers not affiliated with the US Government.<\/p>\n
