Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, arrived this Saturday at 22:01hours (local time, 04:01am in Angola) in Washington, capital city of the United States of America, to attend the US-Africa Leaders \u0301 Summit, an initiative of his US counterpart, Joe Biden.<\/b><\/p>\n

The Head of State, who is accompanied by the First lady, Ana Dias Lourenc\u0327o, heads a ministerial delegation that will participate in several panels throughout the summit, whose purpose is to discuss the perspectives of cooperation between Americans and Africans.<\/p>\n

President Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o will have a very intense and vast four-day programme, with emphasis on the Business Forum on Wednesday (14), in which Joe Biden and Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o are scheduled to address the audience.<\/p>\n

On the same day, the statesman will attend an official dinner to be offered by the US President to all invited African counterparts.<\/p>\n

The Angolan President is also expected to receive, in an audience, senior figures of the U.S Administration, such as the Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, and businesspeople.<\/p>\n

The US-Africa Summit, which will bring leaders from across the African continent to Washington, DC, is to take place on 13-15 this month.<\/p>\n

The Summit will demonstrate US commitment to Africa and highlight the importance of US-Africa relations, and greater cooperation on shared global priorities.<\/p>\n

Among other goals, the event is intended to better promote new economic engagement, strengthen US-Africa commitment to democracy and human rights as well as mitigate the impact of COVID-19 and future pandemics.<\/p>\n

Another purpose is to make Americans and Africans work collaboratively aiming to strengthen regional and global health, promote food security, peace and safety, as well as respond to the climate crisis and expand bonds with the diaspora.<\/p>\n

The Summit is expected to mobilise African governments, civil society and diaspora communities in the United States and also the private sector in search of a common vision for the future of US-Africa relations.<\/p>\n
