Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The US President, Joe Biden, announced this Thursday that his government will work with Congress, over the next three years, to mobilize USD 55 billion to promote the priorities of Agenda 2063.<\/b><\/p>\n

Agenda 2063 is Africa’s master plan to transform the continent into the global power of the future and promote its development in an inclusive and sustainable way.<\/p>\n

This is a set of initiatives proposed and currently being implemented by the African Union, adopted on January 31, 2015, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, at the time of the 24th Ordinary Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the continental organization.<\/p>\n

According to the US statesman, who was speaking at the Summit of Heads<\/p>\n

of State, within the framework of the US-Africa Summit, this package represents<\/p>\n

his country’s comprehensive commitment to the African people,<\/p>\n

its infrastructure, agriculture, security and health systems.<\/p>\n

Joe Biden expressed the interest of the US in increasing a<\/p>\n

strategic partnership with Africans in all areas, stressing<\/p>\n

that they are committed to helping African States in the evaluation<\/p>\n

of the necessary financing to have sustainable economies.<\/p>\n

According to Biden, the peoples of Africa are indispensable for the<\/p>\n

promotion of a freer, more prosperous and safer world, hence the urgent need<\/p>\n

to take decisive and joint measures.<\/p>\n

Therefore, it announced that they are leading a global effort to carry out<\/p>\n

equitable agreements and offer debt relief for global credits.<\/p>\n

“We are requesting Congress to grant a credit of USD 21 billion to the IMF, to give low and middle income countries<\/p>\n

the necessary access to finance “, he said.<\/p>\n

According to the North American President, the USA is willing to<\/p>\n

support development projects, in a resilient way, to counteract, above all, possible future world crises.<\/p>\n

In another area, he reiterated that his country fully supports<\/p>\n

UN reforms, especially the intention to include<\/p>\n

African states as permanent observers in the organization.<\/p>\n

“Africa must have a voice in all the rooms where<\/p>\n

global challenges are discussed and in all the institutions where decisions are taken”, declared Biden, who, on the other hand, appealed to the African Union to join the G20 group, as a member permanent.<\/p>\n

In the statesman’s view, democracy is the best instrument that<\/p>\n

States have to face the enormous challenges, so<\/p>\n

the US will continue to work to combat<\/p>\n

democratic setbacks, through its initiative in Africa.<\/p>\n

In this regard, he announced that his government will work with<\/p>\n

Congress to invest USD 75 million, aimed at strengthening transparent and accountable governance, as well as facilitating voter registration and supporting constitutional reforms.<\/p>\n

Likewise, he advanced that, through a three-year pilot program, valued at USD 100 million, the US Department of Defense<\/p>\n

will work with African partners to drive reforms and build or develop their security capabilities.<\/p>\n

Joe Biden warned African leaders, however, that the success of the entire strategy evaluated within the scope of Agenda 2063 and the Washington Summit will not be achieved only with communique\u0301s, but with real action by the States.<\/p>\n

“We need to put our commitments from paper to practice, in order to be reflected in people’s lives”, appealed Joe Biden, who was eager and available to visit Africa.<\/p>\n

“I look forward to meeting you all and visiting your countries”, concluded the host of the US-Africa Leaders Summit.<\/p>\n

In addition to the Summit of Heads of State, which discussed strategic partnerships for Agenda 2063, the last day of the US-Africa Summit was marked by the approach of two panels, “Multilateral Partnerships with Africa for Global Meeting” and “Promotion of Food Security and Resilience of Food Systems”.<\/p>\n

The Washington Summit, an initiative of President Joe Biden, supported by the African Union, took place from 13 to 15 December, with the participation of more than 49 African leaders, including the Angolan Head of State, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, and influential businessmen .<\/p>\n

During the first two days, several events were held, with emphasis on the Youth Forum and the Eximbank Annual Congress, which had more than 100 participants.<\/p>\n
