Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, left the city of Washington this Friday, after completing an official four-day journey, which had as its high point his participation in the US-Africa Leaders Summit.<\/b><\/p>\n

During his stay in the US capital, the Angolan Head of State carried out an intense activity, marked by meetings with senior US government officials, African counterparts and influential businessmen.<\/p>\n

As part of the summit, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o participated in the Eximbank Annual Congress and was part of several panels, where he spoke twice, to speak, among other topics, about Angola’s advances in the field of energy production and on improving the business environment .<\/p>\n

On the sidelines of the meeting, he had a round table with<\/p>\n

US businessmen and promoted a high-level meeting with counterparts from Burundi, Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, as well as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Sudan.<\/p>\n

The meeting evaluated the level of implementation of the Roadmap of Luanda on the situation of instability in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), with the Heads of State lamenting the massacres of civilian populations, still to be clarified, and highlighting the role of the Mechanism of Ad-hoc verification in clarifying facts.<\/p>\n

Still on the sidelines of his participation in the summit, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o participated, in the White House, in a dinner offered to African leaders, by President Joe Biden, as well as granted several audiences, including the administrator of USAID, Samantha Power.<\/p>\n

This Friday, the last day of the working day, the President of the Republic received the secretary of the United States Department of Commerce, Don Graves, the executive director of the Fieldstone group, Jason Harlan, and the executive director of Hecate Global, David Wilhelm .<\/p>\n

Regarding the President’s journey, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Te\u0301te Anto\u0301nio, referred, this Friday, that the agenda was essentially dedicated to economic diplomacy.<\/p>\n

From his point of view, it was a rich and profitable agenda, which allowed the Head of State to interact with various African counterparts, particularly in his capacity as mediator for the African Union for the conflict in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo.<\/p>\n

In this context, he explained, a mini-summit was held, in two parts, the first with the participation of the Presidents of Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania, and a representation of South Sudan.<\/p>\n

He reiterated that the meeting dealt with the implementation of the Roadmap for Luanda, underlining that on Thursday, the Angolan President sat down with his DRC counterpart, Fe\u0301lix Tshisekedi, to jointly assess the conclusions of the mini-summit in Washington.<\/p>\n

“It was a cycle concluded Thursday, in this context, and we think that the objectives were reached. We think that it is a very positive balance, that we take from this action Washington”, he concluded, having appealed for the necessity of the implementation of the initialed agreements.<\/p>\n
