Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The deputy ombudsman, Aguinaldo Guedes Cristo\u0301va\u0303o, this Friday in Mbanza Kongo, province of Zaire, encouraged citizens to report possible cases of violation of their rights to his institution.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking on the theme \u201cThe role and function of the Ombudsman\u2019s Office in defending citizens\u2019 rights, freedoms and guarantees\u201d, the official lamented the fact that the Ombudsman\u2019s Office had registered only one complaint from the province of Zaire, in 2021.<\/p>\n

The absence of a representation of this body in the region, according to the speaker, was the reason for the little participation of possible cases of violation of citizens’ rights for his body.<\/p>\n

He informed that the Ombudsman’s Office is currently represented in 10 of the country’s 18 provinces, when the intention is to extend this service to Zaire, probably in 2023.<\/p>\n

However, Aguinaldo Guedes Cristo\u0301va\u0303o informed that, in the absence of a representative of the Ombudsman’s Office in the region, citizens can make a complaint via telephone calls or messages addressed to their institution, in case of violation of their rights.<\/p>\n

Reports can also be made via the Angolan post office, according to the source, explaining that all complaints received by the Ombudsman’s Office are compiled in a report.<\/p>\n

“This annual report is sent to sovereign bodies such as the Presidency of the Republic and the National Assembly”, said the deputy ombudsman, explaining that his body lacks decision-making power in the matters presented and much less interferes in judicial decisions.<\/p>\n

The lecture, opened by the deputy provincial governor of Zaire for the political, economic and social sector, Afonso Nzolameso, was attended by magistrates, representatives of defense and internal order bodies, traditional authorities, academics, members of the provincial government, among others. other guests.<\/p>\n

The delegation from the Ombudsman’s Office has been working since Thursday in Mbanza Kongo, where it is observing the operation of some bodies involved in the administration of justice and listening to individual and collective entities.<\/p>\n

Visits to the cells of the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) and to the Nkiende prison unit also dominated the working day of the deputy ombudsman in Zaire.<\/p>\n
