Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Minister of State and Head of the Military House of the President of the Republic, Francisco Pereira Furtado, sunday, considered the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Assunc\u0327a\u0303o dos Anjos, an “inescapable figure” of Angolan diplomacy.<\/b><\/p>\n

The minister was speaking to the press after paying homage to the former head of Angolan diplomacy, who died on the 12th of this month, in Madrid, Spain, due to illness.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe shared many moments during the latent conflict in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo, between 2008 and 2010. He is a figure that will remain in the annals of Angolan history\u201d, expressed Francisco Furtado.<\/p>\n

Also present at the wake, the Minister of State and Chief of Staff of the President of the Republic, Ada\u0303o de Almeida, considered the moment difficult, having highlighted the commitment of the deceased in favor of the international affirmation of Angola.<\/p>\n

“We remember him with a lot of nostalgia, but (…) with gratitude. Thank you for everything you did for the cause of Angola and the Angolans”, said the Minister of State and Head of the Civil House of the President of the Republic.<\/p>\n

For the vice-president of the MPLA, Lui\u0301sa Damia\u0303o, Angolans have good memories of Assunc\u0327a\u0303o dos Anjos as a diplomat of \u201cfine treatment\u201d, a man who was notable for giving his best contribution to Angolan diplomacy.<\/p>\n

He was “a diplomat par excellence. He will always be remembered for his best contribution to<\/p>\n

Angolan diplomacy”, underlined the MPLA leader.<\/p>\n

Assunc\u0327a\u0303o dos Anjos was a politician and diplomat, having served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2008 to 2010.<\/p>\n

During his diplomatic career, he also served as director for Africa and the Middle East at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n

The deceased was responsible for the offices of the Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of Planning and the then President of the Republic, Jose\u0301 Eduardo dos Santos, from 1979 to 1993.<\/p>\n

He was also Angola’s ambassador to Spain, France and Portugal.<\/p>\n

In 2010 he was replaced by Georges Rebelo Chikoti as Minister of Foreign Affairs and, later, appointed Presidential Advisor.<\/p>\n

The mortal remains of Assunc\u0327a\u0303o dos Anjos now rest in the Alto das Cruzes cemetery, in Luanda.<\/p>\n
