Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Secretary General of the United Nations, Anto\u0301nio Guterres, Monday reaffirmed his recognition of the leadership and commitment of the Angolan Head of State, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, in promoting dialogue, peace and security in Africa.<\/b><\/p>\n

The recognition was expressed by Anto\u0301nio Guterres in a meeting he held with the Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Te\u0301te Anto\u0301nio, at the headquarters of the United Nations, in New York, United States of America (USA).<\/p>\n

In a note, the Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs refers that the Secretary-General of the United Nations highlighted the commitment of President Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o in the search for a peaceful solution to the reigning tension in the Great Lakes Region.<\/p>\n

The document adds that, on the occasion, Anto\u0301nio Guterres reiterated appreciation for the \u201clong partnership\u201d between the United Nations and Angola, having expressed willingness to work with the Angolan Government in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda.<\/p>\n

Minister Te\u0301te Anto\u0301nio took the opportunity to express Angola’s intention to present candidates for the positions of Resident Coordinator of the United Nations.<\/p>\n

Meeting with Amina Mohammed<\/p>\n

As part of the trip to New York, the Head of Angolan diplomacy, Te\u0301te Anto\u0301nio, addressed, also on Monday, peace and security in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), in a meeting with the UN Deputy Secretary General , Amina Mohammed.<\/p>\n

The meeting also served to analyze issues related to the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OEACP), held from the 6th to the 10th of the current month, in the Angolan capital, as well as the reforms of the UN.<\/p>\n

Meeting with representatives of the “A3 Group”<\/p>\n

Still in New York, Minister Te\u0301te Anto\u0301nio meets with the Permanent Representatives of Ghana, Kenya and Gabon at the United Nations, also known as “A3 Group”, African countries that are part of the Security Council<\/p>\n

The Permanent Representative of Mozambique to the United Nations was also present at the same meeting, a country that should assume its seat on the Security Council from January 2023. At<\/p>\n

the meeting, the Representatives of the “A3 Group” more Mozambique expressed their support for the initiatives carried out by Angola, with a view to the peaceful resolution of the conflict in the eastern region of the DRC, as well as for the deliberations of the Luanda and Nairobi Processes.<\/p>\n
