Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Supreme Court (TS) granted parole to the former Minister of Transport, Augusto Toma\u0301s, arrested since September 21, 2018.<\/b><\/p>\n

“Conditional freedom is granted to the inmate Augusto da Silva Toma\u0301s, for the time remaining for the fulfillment of the sentence of five years, three months and 22 days in prison”, refers in the judgment of the TS.<\/p>\n

In the document, released on Wednesday, that superior court recalls that Augusto Toma\u0301s was sentenced in August 2019, to 14 years in higher prison, within the scope of the trial of the “Case of the National Council of Chargers (CNC).<\/p>\n

The said sentence, which was reduced by the plenary of the Supreme Court to seven years and one month in prison, ends on January 10, 2024.<\/p>\n

Under the terms of the judgment, until the end of the sentence, the former minister is obliged to reside in Luanda and pay the “total compensation to which he was sentenced, within the same period”.<\/p>\n

The defense of Augusto Toma\u0301s requested parole, as the former minister had served half of the sentence imposed on him, with the<\/p>\n

National Directorate of the Penitentiary Service giving a favorable opinion.<\/p>\n

Augusto Toma\u0301s was Minister of Transport between 2008 and 2017. He responded in court for the crimes of embezzlement and violation of the rules for implementing the budget plan on an ongoing basis.<\/p>\n

The former ruler also responded in court for the crimes<\/p>\n

of continued abuse of power and economic participation in business.<\/p>\n

During the trial, Augusto Toma\u0301s was acquitted of the crimes of money laundering and criminal association, due to lack of evidence.<\/p>\n
