Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Fourteen members of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) and the National Police (PN) in the municipality of Mbanza Kongo, province of Zaire, were released on Thursday, under the Amnesty Law of 23 December, approved by the National Assembly and promulgated by the President of the Republic.<\/b><\/p>\n

The same law grants amnesty to all common crimes punishable with prison sentences of up to eight years committed by national or foreign citizens, in the period from November 12, 2015 to November 11, 2022.<\/p>\n

Nine soldiers from the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) and five agents from the National Police, among whom were detained and convicted of military crimes, benefited from pardon, whose release was granted by the Military Court of the North Naval Region.<\/p>\n

Those covered were serving sentences in the Nkiende jail, which is 30 kilometers from the city of Mbanza Kongo, and release certificates were handed over to them in the coming days to present themselves to the respective military and police units.<\/p>\n

The ceremony was presided over by the deputy commander of the 2nd Infantry Division of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) for Patriotic Education, Colonel Avelino Jorge da Silva.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, the official highlighted the new opportunity that the aforementioned Law grants to beneficiaries for their reintegration into the political and social life of the country.<\/p>\n

He noted, however, that this Law does not extinguish civil and disciplinary liability arising from amnesty facts.<\/p>\n

In turn, the military judge of the North Naval Region Court, Ame\u0301lia Angelina, explained that the Amnesty Law aims to annul crimes committed by those covered.<\/p>\n

He informed that some of those covered were far from completing the fulfillment of their sentences, while others were waiting for the trial, so he advised them to behave well to avoid aggravating convictions.<\/p>\n

The military prosecutor of the 2nd Infantry Division of the FAA, Major Domingos Joa\u0303o Francisco Canga, in turn, explained that, after their release, those covered should receive, in the coming days, presentation guides to their military or police units.<\/p>\n

The release ceremony took place at the Command of the 2nd Infantry Division of the Northern Military Region of the FAA and was attended by officials from the National Police, the Provincial Office for Justice and Human Rights, members of the Military Unit, among other guests.<\/p>\n
