Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>About 10 tonnes of tilapia were produced, from May to December 2022, in the commune of Funda, in Luanda, as part of the first production of the community project to raise the species in net tanks in that fishing town in the municipality of Cacuaco.<\/b><\/p>\n

This information was provided yesterday by the general director of the Institute for the Development of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture (IPA), Valdemar Pinto, in a ceremony presided over by the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Ca\u0301rmen do Sacramento Neto.<\/p>\n

At the time, Valdemar Pinto informed that Kilunda’s initiative started with 15 floating tanks and 40,000 fry and initially aimed to empower 30 local families.<\/p>\n

The project, funded by 15 million kwanzas, is developed by the Institute of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture, an entity responsible for training members of the cooperatives associated with the initiative with knowledge on cooperativism, aquaculture, small business management, among other subjects.<\/p>\n

According to the person in charge, the project serves to support the promotion of aquaculture in the area, since currently the levels of capture in the Kilunda lagoon register significant drops in the school of tilapia (Cacusso) and, to ensure its sustainability, the IPA analyzed the parameter and water quality and launched the project, he explained.<\/p>\n

In this first production cycle, he said, the tilapia (Cacusso) removed weighed between 350 and 500 grams and the project created 35 direct jobs and more than 50 indirect ones.<\/p>\n

The project also includes the integration of women sellers and processors and the guarantee of reserves for the purchase of feed and fry for the next cycle.<\/p>\n

At the event, the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Ca\u0301rmen do Sacramento Neto, praised the initiative that took several young people out of unemployment, who with their income are also helping to overcome the living conditions of certain families in Funda.<\/p>\n

Accompanied by the governor of Luanda, Manuel Homem, she also highlighted the fact that the project values \u200b\u200bgender, has given training to the community for better business management and that the Government has created conditions to guarantee the production of tilapia in the Kilunda lagoon. in other cycles.<\/p>\n

In the same project, in 15 days, the IPA also trained 33 people, including 11 women, during which the fishermen deepened their knowledge on \u201csafety of navigation\u201d, \u201caquaculture\u201d, \u201cassociation\u201d, \u201ccooperativism\u201d and other topics.<\/p>\n
