Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The President of Timor-Leste, Jose\u0301 Ramos-Horta, Monday, invited the Angolan Head of State, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, to visit Timor-Leste, within the framework of strengthening bilateral cooperation.<\/b><\/p>\n

The information was confirmed by President Ramos-Horta, in Brasi\u0301lia, after a meeting with his Angolan counterpart, adding that the visit should take place “as soon as the diplomatic missions set the date”.<\/p>\n

Presidents Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o and Ramos-Horta are in Brasilia, Brazil, where they witnessed, on Sunday, the inauguration of the new Head of State, Lula da Silva.<\/p>\n

“I met with the President of Angola, I invited him to visit Timor-Leste on a date to be agreed upon, at the first opportunity the President has”, he said.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the press, he expressed his desire to boost and expand diplomatic relations, consultations, concertation, as well as the search for greater cooperation.<\/p>\n

Ramos-Horta considers Angola a country of great inspiration and recognizes the support given, from the beginning, by his country’s liberation struggle for independence<\/p>\n

“Personally, I worked very closely with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, ambassadors at the UN General Assembly, in Brussels, in the European Union, and we always remember with great gratitude the support that Angola gave us, as well as other countries of the CPLP and the PALOP”, recalls the Head of State of Timor-Leste.<\/p>\n

With Angola, in particular, he says he has active bilateral cooperation within the framework of the CPLP.<\/p>\n

Timor wants paintings from Angola<\/b><\/p>\n

Regarding the cultural and linguistic aspects, Ramos-Horta said that they were interested in expanding cooperation, regretting the small Angolan presence in Timor-Leste.<\/p>\n

Like the human resources cooperation maintained with Cape Verde, Timor-Leste wants to open the doors to Angola, to overcome the difficulties in human resources.<\/p>\n

“Another area that could be seen is Angola’s support in the area of \u200b\u200bhuman resources, with the sending of Angolan staff in the country’s priority areas”, he stated.<\/p>\n

As priority areas, he points out the need for staff for public administration, for Justice and for exchanging experiences in the management of non-renewable resources.<\/p>\n

ASEAN Membership<\/b><\/p>\n

With Timor-Leste’s accession to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), scheduled for this year, for President Ramos-Horta, a path is also opened for Angola, in the expansion of trade.<\/p>\n

ASEAN is a joint market of 700 million people, with a joint economy of four trillion dollars, as well as a purchasing power of USD 200 million for the middle and upper classes, and the availability of a free trade agreement with ASEAN. Australia, New Zealand, China, Korea and Japan.<\/p>\n

If Timor-Leste enters, according to the negotiations that are being made, Ramos-Horta said that his country could be a great platform for Angola’s commercial interests in the Southeast Asian region.<\/p>\n
