Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The chairman of the Board of Directors of the Water and Sanitation Company (EAS) of Huambo, Adolfo Elias Gomes, announced that the institution expects to cover, within six months, 50 percent of the main peripheral districts of the city.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking this Tuesday to press, the manager referred that the institution is committed to expanding the water supply network to the outskirts of the city of Huambo, seat of the province with the same name, currently with a coverage of around 45 percent.<\/p>\n

Adolfo Elias Gomes said that, in a first phase, household connections are being made in the Macolocolo and SantaTeresa\/Funileiros neighbourhoods, which, despite being among the oldest, have never benefited from drinking water.<\/p>\n

Without revealing the amount of the project, he said that the completion of the works was scheduled for next March and, later, connections would begin in the neighborhoods of Cambiote, Cavongue and Calobrinco.<\/p>\n

He recalled that there are a total of 19 locations planned for the city of Huambo, within the scope of the 20,000 home connections project, financed by the World Bank, since 2017.<\/p>\n

The official added that Huambo province has an average monthly production capacity of 13 million 134 thousand cubic meters of water.<\/p>\n

He recalled that in 2022, one billion, 200,000 cubic meters of water were produced, of which 20 percent wasted due to breaches in the pipeline, in addition to the vandalism of meters.<\/p>\n

To avoid wasting water, the manager said that the company has been focusing on raising awareness in communities about the importance of preserving State assets, as well as having a culture of paying for what you consume.<\/p>\n

The Water and Sanitation Company in Huambo currently has 86,000 registered customers, of which 56,000 are active, but with a payment culture of around 50 percent.<\/p>\n

This province, located in the Central Plateau of Angola, comprises 11 municipalities, with water treatment and distribution substations in just three municipalities (Caa\u0301la, Huambo and Ecunha).<\/p>\n
