Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The governor of Namibe, Archer Mangueira, highlighted yesterday that January 4, 1961 is the mainstay of Angolan nationalism that inspired other important battles that culminated in the country’s independence.<\/b><\/p>\n

In a message released by the governor of Namibe, Archer Mangueira, on the occasion of the 4th of January, the Day of the Martyrs of the Colonial Repression, marked yesterday, he reiterated the bravery shown by the Angolans, despite the torture and massacre perpetrated by the colonial authorities, during which thousands of Angolans lost their lives.<\/p>\n

“It did not intimidate and much less reversed the sense of paradigm shift that Angolans wanted, freedom in their own land”, he recalled.<\/p>\n

This act of bravery, according to the official, started the struggles for the liberation of the Angolan people against Portuguese colonialism, which culminated in the achievement of national independence.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn this sense, the government of Namibe addresses to all the brave and martyred combatants of downtown Cassanje, the liveliest and most effusive thanks for the conquests that, with bravery and audacity, never accepted being defeated in their homeland, thus constituting a living example for the new generations, especially in the continuation of the struggle for social and economic development in the parents\u201d, reads the message.<\/p>\n

On the 4th of January, the Angolan people celebrate the day dedicated to the Martyrs of the Colonial Repression, the date that marks the beginning of the national liberation struggle against the Portuguese colonial yoke.<\/p>\n
