Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The contribution of schools in preserving, valuing and rescuing Angola’s cultural identity was highlighted this Wednesday by the director of the Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports office in Huambo, Jeremias Piedade Chissanga.<\/b><\/p>\n

The official was speaking on the sidelines of a lecture on \u201cStudents’ contribution to the preservation and enhancement of Angolan culture\u201d, which marked the opening of the commemorative days for the National Day of Culture, which is celebrated on the 8th of this month.<\/p>\n

Jeremias Piedade Chissanga said that schools, both general and higher education, constitute an essential element for the conservation and preservation of cultural identity, as they are the places where students spend most of their time, with the mission of consolidating and raising principles governing national identity.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is known that education starts at home, but it is at school where students currently spend most of their time, hence the reason for their involvement in the management of cultural values, which are gradually being lost in society\u201d, emphasized.<\/p>\n

In front of an audience made up of teachers and students from the private school \u201cMaya\u201d, a private high school institution, the official recalled that every citizen must be an agent for the preservation and enhancement of national culture and habits and customs.<\/p>\n

The educational institution, ensured by 86 teachers, has, in the current academic year, 690 students enrolled in the courses of Clinical Analysis, Civil Construction, Accounting, Electricity and General Nursing.<\/p>\n

Closing scheduled for next Sunday (08), the commemorative days for the National Day of Culture reserve, among other activities, a cultural industry fair and a round table on \u201cCulture as a factor of national identity and unity\u201d.<\/p>\n

The date was approved by Decree No. 21 and published in Dia\u0301rio da Repu\u0301blica No. 87, Series I, of November 1986, due to the speech given in 1979 by the first Angolan President and founder of the Nation, Anto\u0301nio Agostinho Neto, at the inauguration of the governing bodies of the Union of Angolan Writers (UEA), in Luanda.<\/p>\n

The event was instituted in recognition of his thinking, regarding the problems related to National Culture, as well as the importance that culture has as one of the constituent elements of the substrate of national unity and an essential factor in the affirmation of the country’s sovereignty and promotion of development.<\/p>\n
