Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Sixteen members of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) and the National Police (PN) were released this Monday in Ndalatando, Cuanza Norte province, under the amnesty law.<\/b><\/p>\n

Of the prisoners released, who were serving prison sentences at the Ndalatando Penitentiary, nine are FAA soldiers and seven are PNA soldiers.<\/p>\n

The release ceremony was guided by the judge of the Military Court of Cuanza Norte, Neusa Cambundo Seraponzo, who expressed concern about the increase in crimes involving FAA and National Police personnel.<\/p>\n

Without advancing numbers, he pointed out indecent conduct, with emphasis on the consumption of alcoholic beverages during the exercise of functions, desertion and insubordination as the main crimes committed by military and police officers in the region.<\/p>\n

In 2022 alone, the Military Court registered 45 crimes of indecent conduct, and three in the first nine days of 2023.<\/p>\n

The perpetrators of these crimes were tried and sentenced in summary proceedings to effective and suspended prison sentences ranging from two months to two years.<\/p>\n

“This behavior torments society, because these staff work with weapons and in a state of drunkenness can constitute a danger for citizens”, said the magistrate.<\/p>\n

He added that this type of behavior undermines the peace and tranquility of citizens, as well as the integrity of the National Territory.<\/p>\n

He also referred that such acts, with repercussions on the social fabric, contribute to family breakdown and the practice of domestic violence.<\/p>\n

The military judge exhorted the citizens now released to avoid committing new crimes, so that they would not be arrested again and run the risk of being expelled from the corporations.<\/p>\n

The Amnesty Law, approved on December 15 of last year by the National Assembly, forgives all common crimes with prison sentences of up to eight years, committed by national or foreign citizens in the period between November 12, 2015 and November 11, 2022 .<\/p>\n

Amnesty will also be applied to military crimes punishable with prison sentences of up to eight years, except for intentional crimes committed with violence that resulted in death.<\/p>\n

The Law excludes, among others, intentional crimes committed with violence, money laundering, corruption and embezzlement, trafficking in people and arms and aiding illegal immigration.<\/p>\n

As part of the celebrations of the 47th anniversary of National Independence, the Law aims to ensure that this commemorative act is reflected in the established social order, without excluding citizens deprived of liberty, granting them new political, social and social and family reintegration opportunities.<\/p>\n
