Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The National Assembly promised, this Wednesday, to provide all the conditions for, later this year, to create the Angola and Zambia Parliamentary Friendship Group, within the framework of parliamentary diplomacy.<\/b><\/p>\n

The information was provided by the President of the Angolan Parliament, Carolina Cerqueira, while speaking at the Solemn Plenary Meeting, on the occasion of the State visit to Angola by the President of the Republic of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema.<\/p>\n

Carolina Cerqueira assured, on the occasion, that the National Assembly is available to work on the definition of a new strategy to reinforce Interparliamentary cooperation with the Parliament of Zambia, within the framework of parliamentary diplomacy.<\/p>\n

She expressed the desire of the Angolan legislators to strengthen cooperation relations between the parliaments of the two countries, for the exchange of experiences and good practices “in the search for the best solutions to solve the real problems of our peoples and countries”.<\/p>\n

As a result of the engagement of the Angolan Parliament in the field of parliamentary cooperation, he announced the holding in the Angolan capital, in the second half of this year, of the 147th Assembly of the World Interparliamentary Union.<\/p>\n

He invited Zambian parliamentarians to participate in this magnificent event, “so that together we can share the main concerns of the continent, in a global context, in the face of the great challenges of the present and the future”.<\/p>\n

In the field of international cooperation, he assured that the National Assembly continues to work with the “brother countries” to overcome “the main barriers that impede the implementation of a broad and effective regional union”.<\/p>\n

“Therefore, we dedicate particular attention to strengthening cooperation in the Interparliamentary sphere, especially in the purposes of creating the SADC Parliament”, he stressed.<\/p>\n

Carolina Cerqueira also praised the work of all parliaments in Southern Africa in strengthening democracy, peace, and institutional stability at a regional and global level, aware that there is still “a lot of work ahead”.<\/p>\n

In her speech, the leader of the Angolan Parliament also spoke about the challenges linked to social integration and stability, of populations affected by social problems, as well as gender parity, assistance to decision-making bodies and women’s empowerment, access of young people to education, employment, among others.<\/p>\n

He also expressed the need to work towards the realization of the community dream of free movement of people and goods, characterizing this assumption as one of the most relevant for the development, consolidation and affirmation of the region in the context of nations.<\/p>\n

In his view, the free movement of people and goods naturally promotes structuring commercial exchanges for African economies, noting that, in the case of Angola and Zambia, these can be facilitated through access to the Atlantic Ocean via the Caminho Benguela Railroad of the strategic Lobito Corridor.<\/p>\n

Praised political measures by the Zambian statesman<\/b><\/p>\n

The President of the Angolan Parliament praised the political measures implemented in Zambia by its President, Hakainde Hichilema, for whom “the respective gains in society have fed not only the hope of the Zambian people but also of the people of the entire region” .<\/p>\n

Carolina Cerqueira saluted the historic initiative of the Zambian statesman, for having abolished the death penalty in that country, “a decision that aroused enthusiastic reactions at national, regional and world level as it constituted a recognition of the importance of defending and promoting human rights”.<\/p>\n
